• What Could Have Been: Mahito Yokota initially came up with a more Latin soundtrack -- up to 28 pieces had been composed -- because he believed it fit in line with the music of previous games. Koji Kondo told him it wouldn't work. Yokota admitted that the initial direction he took with the music stemmed from his misconception that the Mario games, as "kid's" games, ought to have cutesy tunes.
