You probably already notice the site message at the top of the page. As a result of the Great Miraheze Spam Flood that affected multiple wikis in December 2020, we have instituted moderation of posts. Most people's edits and image uploads will not appear immediately, the way that they would on Wikipedia... but yours will. This is a privilege (given for consistently good edits and being a Troper in good standing), not a right.

This privilege comes with a responsibility: You also have Moderation rights. Whenever somebody makes an edit that requires moderation, it will appear at Special:Moderation until somebody with Moderation rights either approves or rejects it. Please pitch in when there are posts waiting for moderation. I trust that only spam will be rejected. 😀

... because you replaced a link to a Work page with a link to a redirect - then re-created the otherwise-unused redirect.

I then made the change that I'm sure you intended to make, and re-deleted the unused redirect.

If you can't type in a fraction while editing, select "Special characters" from the menu at the top of the edit box, select "Symbols" from the menu on the left side of what drops down, then select the fraction from the list that appears. The character will be placed into the page for you.

Your suggestion is very annoying and not intuitive for the average user. Imagine searching for 8 1/2 on the site and not finding anything. Wikipedia has that redirect, why not ours?

That doesn't matter, not for this discussion. What does matter is that you took a link that was pointing directly at the work page in question and changed it to point at a redirect instead. You introduced unnecessary complexity to a simple system.

Just a head's-up: I've put together a couple of templates that can be used to give subpages a consistent look and feel. They only work on the first level of subpages, though, so please don't use these on nested subpages.

• {{worksubpagefooter}}, for subpages of Works pages, puts the name of the top level page in italics.
• {{tropesubpagefooter}}, for subpages of Trope pages, doesn't put the name of the top level page in italics.

I've already added them to the page templates.

Bumping this, since I see you did a few dozen Quote subpages today and manually typed in the text instead of using the templates.

Damn it. I even noted them in a file, but I somehow forgot.

You now get to pick one quote for the top of the page, instead of the four we currently have.

I did that because it broke formatting. None of the other quotes from the other Star Wars film pages have been changed in your way.

Based on your suggestion, the option that would take the least space on a page would be to keep a direct quote from the film, and not the crawl. They should be moved to their Quotes subpages.

Hi! Spreading the word about this one - I had to explain it to Looney Toons, too.

There are two different Magic Words that point to pages further up a category tree: BASEPAGENAME and ROOTPAGENAME. BASEPAGENAME returns the page name up to but not including the final slash, while ROOTPAGENAME returns the page name up to but not including the first slash. If you want to autoinclude the category for a particular work, you want ROOTPAGENAME, not BASEPAGENAME.

For example:

• Page = Babylon 5/Recap/Film (which I picked because we use both Magic Words in the footer)
• ROOTPAGENAME = Babylon 5
• BASEPAGENAME = Babylon 5/Recap
