The Enterprise must deal with a threat to a society that has heavily utilized eugenics and social engineering, which cannot simply be evacuated without being destroyed.
Tropes used in The Masterpiece Society include:
- Straw Man Has a Point: A sort of odd version of it. The eugenics-practicing society was intended to be the strawman, too staid and stagnant to be creative. But Geordi does such an eloquent job of defending his own right to live, despite being exactly the sort of person the society would have had aborted in the womb, that the episode wound up resonating with a rather strong Pro-Life aesop. Word of God is that the showrunners are outraged at such an interpretation, and that someone must have the right to terminate a pregnancy for whatever reason they saw fit... meaning that they wound up siding with their own arrogant, eugenics-practicing strawmen instead, while decrying the point-having Geordi at the same time.
