* In [[Robin Hobb]]'s ''[[FarseerRealm (Literature)of the Elderlings|Farseer]]'' trilogy, FitzChivalry is initially given the Farseer arms, of a buck's head, with a red diagonal line to mark his illegitimacy. It's suggested that, while he wouldn't be allowed to wear the royal arms without the line, all he'd have to do was ask and he'd be given his own arms with no such mark, and later this is given to him anyway.

* Dr. Simon Bar Sinister is the main antagonist in the ''[[Underdog (Animationanimation)|Underdog]]'' cartoon show. The name [[Getting Crap Past the Radar|could be translated as]] "Simon, the Bastard".
