Additionally, Canada becomes to this universe what the USA is to the real one — culturally and economically dominant on the world stage, and rapidly outstripping the Confederacy militarily as well.
*** It's basically the creative staff needing the CSA to be successful so it can be portrayed as evil, oppressive, and cruel. If they portrayed it as collapsing realistically, they couldn't use it to attempt to cast guilt on the real USA.
