Children of Dust is a 2009 book, the somewhat fictionalized memoir of Ali Eteraz. The author is a Pakistani-severalotherthings-American writer and activist. The story is following him as he grows from madrassa brat to religious snob to convictionless religious leader to activist.

Tropes used in Children of Dust include:
- Magic Realism: Only in South Asia/the so-called “Muslim World” and later leading back into it, thus very much portraying the region as “the other”.
- Squick: Molestation by angels.
- Weirdness Censor: Inverted: To avoid having to come to terms with the harsh reality of his molestation, Abir “rationalizes” the event by considering it a supernatural occurrence, a visit from angels.
