He is known for his high production values, his regular update schedule, his lighthearted and ([[Accidental Innuendo|mostly]]) family-friendly approach to games, his propensity for [[Catch Phrase|catchphrases]] and [[Running Gag|running gags]] (usually based on [[Memetic Mutation|internet memes]]), and his [[Large Ham|hilariously overblown]] reactions to things that happen as he plays.

** In 2011, he tweeted that LP #14 would be ''Pikmin 2''. LP #14 was actually ''Luigi's Mansion'', but LP #''15'', starting the day after ''Luigi's Mansion'', WAS ''Pikmin 2''.

** It's not exactly unheard of for him to get distracted during ramblings or walking to get something, significant or not. Possibly the funniest example is in his first episode of the ''Luigi's Mansion'' LP:

** Sometimes he'll be explaining something, only to get distracted and never explain it again (or take a while to remember it). In episode 25 of ''Pikmin 2'', he got distracted ''twice'' within ''a minute'' of each other:

** Chugga has started the [[Memetic Mutation|Steve Meme AND the NO coin left behind movement]], which he [[Lampshade Hanging|lampshaded]]:

** In episode 26 of ''Pikmin 2'', he notes how the {{spoiler|Water Wraith}} hasn't spawned yet in the Submerged Castle. It spawns IMMEDIATELY after he does so.

** And when he wanted to die to get more money.

* [[Berserk Button]]:

** He goes to Beedle's shop and gives him the complimentary card, hoping for something good. He gets nothing. [[Funny Moments (Sugar Wiki)|So he uses all 99 of his bombs trying to blow up Beedle's ship.]]

** Ever since ''[[Pikmin]]'' ended, he doesn't like to hear about Steve (or any red leaf Pikmin), and goes out of his way to avoid mentioning him in any and all future LP's ([[Zig Zagged Trope|usually]]). [[Proton Jon]] torments him with this in [[The Runaway Guys]], but those instances are for that page.

* [[Better Than a Bare Bulb]]: Chugga is exceedingly fond of [[Lampshade Hanging]], to the point where he points out almost every single trope that happens in the game, whether it be in something that he says or even the way he plays. Basically, if it's there, he's probably hung a lampshade on it.

** Also in ''[[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire|Pokemon Emerald]]'', when battling {{spoiler|[[Bonus Boss|Steven]]}}, Kappa gets '''4 critical hits in 5 turns'''. That kind of stuff usually never happens.

** In his Super Mario Sunshine LP: "How often do you survive the instant kill spikes?!"

* [[Breather Level]]: In-universe; Chuggaa considers [[Pikmin|Glutton's Kitchen]] to be this. {{spoiler|Which was subverted when he ended up losing the largest amount of Pikmin up to that point.}}

* [[Brick Joke]]: One episode of his ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'' [[Let's Play]] is titled "This Video Ends With "Bitch"" at the very beginning. At the very end:

** In ''Majora's Mask'' when he starts the Anju & Kafei quest, he begins the video by playing ''Skyward Sword'' and lamenting that Majora's Mask doesn't have a run button. At the very end of the next video when he's finished with the quest, he says that it (either the in-game [[Heartwarming Moments (Sugar Wiki)|Heartwarming Moments]] or the Couple's Mask) was worth the lack of a run button.

* [[Brief Accent Imitation]]: As of 2011 has noted that he tends to slip into a vaguely Indian accent when reading out the dialogue of any 'quirky' character; in ''Majora's Mask'' he also does an Australian accent for any character who uses words like 'oi' or 'mate'.

* [[Broken Pedestal]]: ''Pikmin 2''. At the end of the LP he decides that he thought the game was better than it was because it took him years to hunt down a copy, and wanting is better than having.

* [[Buffy-Speak]]: A common occurrence like during [[Super Mario Galaxy|the Melty Molten Galaxy]]:

** And then we have this gem from his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP and lampshaded with the labels:

* [[But Thou Must!]]: ''Never'' actually give Chuggaa a purely cosmetic yes/no option of this type, because he ''will'' keep choosing "[[Big No|NO!!]]" for [[Rule of Funny]].

** [[Subverted Trope]] with "For the sheer fact" when he noticed it and stopped. <ref>He said it five times in the FireRed aftergame, then mentioned that he would stop in Crystal, which was about six months later. So, it might still count.</ref>

** In his ''Thousand-Year Door'' [[Let's Play]], at the end of every chapter he would [[No Indoor Voice|yell:]]

* [[Completely Missing the Point]]: Obviously deliberate, but in his LP of ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'':

* [[The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard]]: In his Pokémon Emerald LP, he notes that Dragonbreath almost always seems to [[Standard Status Effects|paralyze]] him when an enemy uses it, yet it rarely paralyzes an enemy when ''he'' uses it.

* [[Crack Pairing]]: Chuggaa jokes about someone (or even himself) dating a [[Pikmin|Wollywog]].

* [[Cuteness Proximity]]: Occasionally gets distracted by his cats doing things while he's trying to play.

** Also when he meets the white Pikmin in Pikmin 2:

* [[Deadpan Snarker]]: Has shades of this. Mainly rises when sarcastically contradicting something obvious he said, like how [[The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker|getting a hundred Rupees is good.]]

** In Wind Waker, the text boxes that describe items are basically filled to the brim with this.

* [[Everything's Better with Bob]]: In ''[[Pikmin]]'', Bob is the Anti-Steve.

* [[Everything's Better with Monkeys]]: [[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask|Monkey logic!]] Like Nintendo Logic, only 'monkier'.

* [[Fridge Brilliance]]: [[In-Universe]], this is why he defends [[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time|Na]][[Exposition Fairy|vi]].

* [[Fridge Horror]]: An [[In-Universe]] example in ''Majora's Mask'':

* [[Fridge Logic]]: [[Lampshade Hanging|Lampshaded]] whenever Chugga points out "Nintendo Logic".

** Also, a lot of his humor is based on doing this to his own voiceover, saying something before pausing to really think about what he said and why it's wrong -- sometimes leading to [[Verbal Backspace]] and [[That Came Out Wrong]].

* [[I Just Want to Be Normal]]: According to his now-deleted 50 Facts video (according to Chugga, some of those facts were seriously outdated), he's actually autistic but tries "as hard as [he] can to act like a normal person because [he] always dreamed of being one as a child." Subverted, as he was actually misdiagnosed.

* [[In Memoriam]]: Though not dead, he has one for the Tentacool he catches in an episode of ''Emerald'' when he decides to leave her in his character's PC for the whole game and not on his team.

** [[Back From the Dead]]: Mentioned by name in Episode 41 when he starts using it as a slave for Dive. Later, he returns to Slateport City and visits the Name Rater offscreen. Enter ACOOLSLAVE!

** On a more serious note, Chugga dedicated Chapter 6 of his MOTHER 3 LP towards {{spoiler|Hinawa (Lucas's mother who died early in the game), dead relatives/friends of his viewers, and his uncle.}}

* [[Incredibly Lame Pun]]: He makes one and lampshades it in Episode 5 of his ''Super Mario Sunshine'' Let's Play. After noting that the wires attached to the windmills are likely power lines, he comes across some flower platforms that also have wires attached to them.

** "GO TO HELL! GO TO SHELL! WHATEVER! [[[Beat]]] [[Lampshade Hanging|That is easily the worst pun I have ever made.]]"

** Heck, Chugga is the absolute king of these. He has an [[Incredibly Lame Pun]] every few episodes of his LP's, not to mention being the main "punner" of [[The Runaway Guys]].

* [[Laughing Mad]]: A few moments, but a particularly memorable one occurs in Episode 8 of ''Emerald'', where he lost all but one of his Pokemon to the Gym Leader's Makuhita. In desperation, he sends out his level 3 Zigzagoon (which he'd caught purely for the purpose of teaching "useless" HM moves). The moment his Zigzagoon entered the field, the poison Acooltent had inflicted ended up knocking the Makuhita out, netting Chugga the win. The Zigzagoon got enough EXP to jump from level 3 to level 7, by the way, and Chugga just kept laughing throughout the whole level-up process.

* [[Lava Is Boiling Kool-Aid]]: Lampshaded in Majora's Mask Episode 41 after a treasure chest spawns in the middle of a lava pool:

** In ''Crystal'' his shiny Koffing is nicknamed 'Methane' because it's blue <ref>as a result of being shiny</ref>, a gas, and explosive <ref>it recently learned Selfdestruct</ref>.

** In Okami, he explained all of the references to Japanese mythology throughtout the game.

* [[Mood Whiplash]]: In the ending of his ''Thousand-Year Door'' LP, after a heartwarming scene that cuts to a beautiful shot of Rogueport in the morning:

** In his ''[[Pokémon Red and Blue|Pokemon FireRed]]'' LP, Chugga was annoyed with the trainers and muttered that he wished they'd all die, when he happened upon a trainer who was mourning his recently deceased Onix, his mood took a U-turn.

* [[Most Annoying Sound]]: 'In-universe', so to speak. Chuggaa ''hates'' [[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask|the Woodfall Temple's music and the noise that Odolwa makes]].

** SPINNING IN ''CIRCLES''!

* [[My God, What Have I Done?]]: Played for laughs in ''[[Super Paper Mario]],'' when witnessing Fracktail's death animation. He comes to the conclusion that Fracktail was a robot with a heart, and thus could love.

* [[My Name Is Not Durwood]]: People apparently often mispronounce his name, Emile, as Eel. Chugga calls this out during Super Luigi Galaxy, saying it's not that hard to pronounce.

* [[Needs More Love (Sugar Wiki)|Needs More Love]]: Invoked. This is more or less his "theme". [[Super Mario RPG]], [[Paper Mario (franchise)|Paper Mario]], [[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]], and ''[[Pokémon Red and Blue|Pokemon FireRed]]'' are the only games he's played that didn't have notable criticism. [[Super Mario Galaxy]] didn't either, but it fits the theme due to him playing as Luigi, who is considered more of an underdog compared to Mario.

** Reaches rather ridiculous heights in his ''MOTHER 3'' LP where he seems to be genuinely confused when Boney is [[Paper-Thin Disguise|disguised by wearing a T-shirt and a cap as well as standing upright.]] Que massive surprise on his part when the "dog-like dude" removes his disguise in the next chapter and it turns out to be Boney.

* [[Oh Crap]]: In his ''Wind Waker'' LP, he threw a bomb at a door. It bounced off and it landed in front of him.

** Mikau getting concussions.

** The Hocotate Ship in [[Pikmin]] 2 constantly interrupting Chuggaa.

** After accidentally brandishing an empty bottle, he says he's "reminded of a certain [[Nintendo Capri Sun|NCS]] quote.''

** Opening Episode 47 with a bit of a parody of how NCS would be so used to saying "Welcome back to The Legend of Zelda:..." that he would open OTHER LP's with "The Legend of Zelda"

** In his Wind Waker bonus video detailing the Tingle Tuner, he starts singing "Calling" from [[The World Ends With You]].

*** Sings the same song once again after Tippi says " Mario, I can feel it calling... The Pure Heart is nearby..." in Episode 5 of his [[Super Paper Mario]] LP.

** In general, his posting the full biographies of every Pokémon, from stats to locations to appearance rates.

** He mentions having done a lot of research in Japanese mythology so he could explain the backstory behind [[Okami]] (see quotes page).

** He educated the viewers about how Wurmple's evolution into Silcoon/Cascoon was random in ''Pokémon Emerald''.

** In Pikmin 2, he postponed the SubmergedCastle for the Glutton's Kitchen, saying it is easier and can get him ''right'' under the poko limit for the other cave. Care to take a guess if he survived? {{spoiler|He lost 23 pikmin to 1 enemy.}}

** The mother of all Fate Tempting came in episode 26. He had managed to make decent progress in the Submerged Castle, having only one more treasure to take back, and then, fearfully, said that he was probably on the last treasure and the thing he feared hadn't spawned yet. {{spoiler|Cue [[Demonic Spider|Waterwraith]].}} Cue Chuggaa [[Freak-Out]].

** Double Subverted in one episode of his Pikmin 2 LP after complaining about the rockfall traps:

** In Episode 46 of his Wind Waker LP, after a lot of failed tries in trying to get under the waterfall in the Forest Haven to meet Makar, he finally succeeds and says, "Okay, I guess I was supposed to grab it from down there even though I ''swear'' that I grabbed it from up there and lowered myself though, but anyway."

** In Super Luigi Galaxy:

"Luigi was [[Something Else Also Rises|gripping onto some sort of tall, long thing]]...uh...I have no idea how I can say that without it sounding phallic." }}

** From Pokemon Emerald: "Typically, Ladies have a lot of money, though, so beat them up."

* [[That One Sidequest]]: He sees the [[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask|Dog]] [[Luck-Based Mission|Racing Track]] as this. It takes him a whole ''ninety minutes'' to complete it. Of real time.

* [[That Russian Squat Dance]]: Whenever he comes across a character who seems to be doing it, he sings Dschingis Khan's "Moskau". (Well, he would if he knew the words...) He's the article's page quote, by the way.

* [[This Is for Emphasis, Bitch]]: Because it's super-effective, bitch!

* [[Tier-Induced Scrappy]]: [[In-Universe]]. He's not afraid to badmouth certain Pokemon, items, or moves in the ''[[Pokémon]]'' games. He hits Skitty/Delcatty and Snorunt/Glalie with this hard, more or less saying there's really no reason to ever have one. Then there's his opinion on Luvdisc...

* [[Working Through the Cold]]: In his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, he ends up with a sore throat partway through, but continues recording episodes for a short while until it gets so bad he ''has'' to stop.

* [[Worth It]]: In the Cavern of Chaos in his Pikmin 2 LP, he reaches a floor covered in Dwarf Bulborbs, as well as ''two'' Gatling Groinks (which he hates, possibly as much as wollywogs). He spent a very long time trying to kill the Groinks and most of the Bulborbs, then carry the Groinks back (they come back to life if their dead body is left alone), going through a lot of trouble and a couple of freakouts. In the end, he slays pretty much every Bulborb there (which is a dang big amount) trying to find the remaining treasure, only to find it's just sitting out in the middle of a room, so he theoretically could've gotten it without all that hassle. Then, when the treasure (an apple juice can) is shown on the screen after being carried back:
