Line 4:
There are billions of dollars going into making this Truth in Television, and you can try it out on many smartphones or be subject to it in certain public places, such as airports. They have a higher than desirable failure rate even on good photos, both failing matches and producing false positives. (Always fun with the TSA.) In some areas in mainland China, it’s near ubiquitous. It's considered one of the hardest problems in computer science, and nobody even knows how far off a perfect solution may be. Nonetheless, nobody ever seems to bat an eye at including flawless examples of this trope in a completely "realistic" show.

This has become a popular crutch on most "procedural drama"-type shows. See also the step that comes before, pressing the Enhance Button. Unlike the Enhance Button, though, which is just nonsense in most cases no matter how good your technology is, incredibly powerful facial recognition software is something that exists, albeit trusted without supporting evidence in fiction far more then in real life. Any example played straight in a setting before the mid 2010's is closer to speculative fiction than truth in television.
