Fantasy Axis of Evil: Difference between revisions

 

* Savage ([[Our Orcs Are Different|Orc]], [[Our Ogres Are Hungrier|Ogre]]): Big, tough, [[Dumb Muscle|usually not particularly bright]], these lot are generally a race of [[The Brute]]. Often the [[Proud Warrior Race Guy|Proud Warrior Race]], and may have a [[Noble Savage]] bent if cast sympathetically. Counterpart to the Stout.

* Humanoid ([[Our Goblins Are Different|Hobgoblin]], [[Beast Man]], sometimes orcs): Effectively humans, with a similar society and capabilities, but stranger looking and often foreign. Sometimes just [[Humans Are Bastards|humans themselves]]. Counterpart to Mundane.

* Fallen ([[The Fair Folk|Dark Elf]]): [[Evil Is Sexy|Good looking]], [[Evil Is Stylish|stylish]], [[Manipulative Bastard|manipulative]] [[Chronic Backstabbing Disorder|backstabbing]] jerks who are downright proud of it. Usually live underground or in some other well-hidden area, specialise in stealth, sneakiness and ruthlessness. Dark mirror of the High Men. Like High Men, they're the most likely to be absent from the [[Fantasy Axis of Evil]].

 

They often have [[Evil Is Cool|more style and personality]] and more interesting lore than the heroic races, and at least one will often be [[Ensemble Darkhorse|more popular than the good races combined]]. That is, if they're not being used solely as mindless [[Mooks]] and [[Class and Level System|XP fodder]].

 

* ''[[Dungeons and Dragons]]'' is something of a [[Trope Codifier]].

** The [[The Undead|Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings]] and [[The Legions of Hell|Chaos Daemons]] all fit Eldritch perfectly.

** The Beastmen and Warriors of Chaos, mutated humans and barbarians sworn to the Chaos Gods respectively, are Humanoid.

** The Skaven are ''definitely'' Crafty; half [[We Have Reserves]], half [[Mad Science]] [[Magitek]], only army that can [[Complete Monster|fire on their own troops]], with ''[[Gatling Good|ratling guns]]'' and ''[[Kill It With Fire|flamethrowers]]''.

* Of course ''[[Warhammer 40000]]'' has counterparts that also fit.

** Black Numenoreans: Fallen

** Evil humans (Haradrim and Easterlings): Humanoid (Uruk-hai could also count here, as it is theorised they are human/orc crossbreeds)

*** Technically, you can count the Barrow Wights and other Undead that the Witch King commands as Eldritch.

*** Also whatever you get turned into if you get stabbed by a Morgul-blade and don't receive treatment in time.

** Eldritch: Everyone to some extent, but [[Mage: The Awakening (Tabletop Game)|Mages]] are the obvious choice. [[Changeling: The Lost (Tabletop Game)|Changelings]] also likewise count, as they've been twisted by the land of Faerie until they're something other than human.

** Humanoid: [[Humans Are Bastards|Humans]]. [[Hunter: The Vigil (Tabletop Game)|Especially if you're not one]].

** Crafty: Debatable... [[Changeling: The Lost (Tabletop Game)|Changelings]] have a fair bit of cunning on their side as they hide from [[The Fair Folk|the Gentry]], [[Promethean: The Created (Tabletop Game)|Prometheans]] are creators and alchemists but rare and tough... if you want to include fan work, [[Genius: The Transgression (Tabletop Game)|Geniuses]] are the closest.

* ''[[Touhou]]'':

** Savage - low level youkai as well as the Oni, i.e. Suika and Yuugi.

** Fallen - [[Witch Species|The Witches]] (i.e. Alice, Byakuren)

** Crafty - the Kappa, i.e. Nitori

** Eldritch: Super Mutants

** Fallen: Ghouls

** Savage: Dragons and most of the other types of monsters from the [[Lost Woods|Everfree Forest]]
