The weakened Ottoman Empire was looking to conquer Armenia (newly independent after the Russian Empire collapsed) and extend its territory to the Caspian Sea. Although hugely out-numbered the Armenians fought off the Ottomans using pretty much any citizen who could carry a gun, and this may be the reason Armenia even exists today.
