In that spirit, I propose a new subpage for settings, worlds, and the general millieu of a work. I think that's a good fit, sets us in a new direction, and refocuses us towards writing. Does that feel like a good start? Vorticity (talk) 09:04, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
:Given the rather wordy yet eloquent way this counter argument was presented, I have to agree the new subpage idea has merit. I originally was under a completely different impression about what this idea was all about, but the way Vorticity puts it sounds like it might be worth considering. :That does sound like a good start, but I'm not clear on how this setting sub-page would be organized. Setting is a pretty complex thing and honestly I think the character sub-page doesn't really provide enough room for real depth either. I also don't see any reason why we should be beholden to tvtrope's format except on its own merit. We're not the same site. To that end, I think we should do something about the ambiguity between "headscratchers" and "fridge logic", and eliminate one or the other. :: The merging there is probably a good idea. Headscratchers is pretty much a variant of Fridge Logic almost always, not Fridge Brilliance of Fridge Horror. Fridge Horror being a subtle variant of Nightmare Fuel, anyway. Quoth Headscratchers, "Headscratchers are for sincere questions, and discussing Fridge Logic." So sometimes it's Fridge Logic, sometimes it's just chit-chat on the topic.
I'll also note that tropes do have Headscratchers pages, but do not have Fridge logic subpages. Those pages seem like they should probably be Talk pages instead, in general. I guess? Only did a tiny random sample.
While we're on the topic of Fridge Horror, why are there so many fan reaction pages? I really had no idea what that last comment would be going; I just sort of got wrapped-up in a low-level policy analysis. See, I knew all of those years on my Absurdly Powerful Student Council would be worth something.
Finally, I agree that setting is very expansive. And that character pages were not used all that well. But it's not like we have any limit on the sub-subpages. Instead of page splits, characters could be split onto their own pages by design ... or whenever. The same applies to setting pages.
Really, I have no idea what a setting subpage looks like. I'm saying that anything like that is conspicuously absent from the site. How it would be organized would probably be, like everything else on the site, ad hoc. Right now, subpages are organized as they are for legacy reasons, and because it allows us to just add a template to the top of a page that covers the standard options.
Ultimately, I feel like too much emphasis on changing the organization is less important than increasing the quantity+quality of content. But I want to hear any specific proposals. Vorticity (talk) 08:08, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Well, there has been tropes and pages created since 2012 on TVTropes... there could be an issue there. Beta Log 86
