Frets on Fire is an open-source music video game, based on Guitar Hero. It was developed by Unreal Voodoo, a Finnish video game company. Though it is possible to play it with a guitar controller (the most common way of playing among the fans), it was designed to be playable holding the keyboard similar to how a guitar is held, reflected in the logo for the game.

This game provides examples of:
* Fake Difficulty: A lot of the custom songs are accused of being overcharted to the point that you're playing notes that aren't in the song, just to make them seem more difficult.
* Game Mod: There are a lot of full game mods, adding Star Power and other similar features, changing the look of the game, and adding instruments other than just guitar/bass. That and the large number of custom songs which are pretty much required for the game, as the few songs that come with it are too lackluster to make a full game.
