* [[Driven to Suicide]]: He drowned himself (and apparently nearly took Emma with him) when he learned that his son committed adultry on his stepwife.

* [[Genius Cripple]]: He spends most of his time in a wheelchair due to a malformed spine from birth (which is strongly implied to be the result of his father being in the Manhattan Project), and yet he's skilled enough to design and build several weapons and equipment.

** Possibly as another reference to "[[Dr. Strangelove]]".

* [[The Ghost]]: He's mentioned twice in ''[[Metal Gear Solid]]'' and ''[[Metal Gear Solid 2]]''. The latter game also reveals he committed suicide due to Hal sleeping with his stepmother.

* [[Not What I Signed On For]]: He cooperated with Hot Coldman and the Peace Sentinels to develop Peace Walker under the belief that, under no circumstances, would Peace Walker launch a nuke. Unfortunately, his boss had other ideas, which is namely launching a nuke to test its effectiveness in deterrence, and most likely instigate a [[Nuclear War]]. After learning this (which by that time, the frame was already complete), he pretty much quit.

* [[Only Known By Their Nickname]]: Huey isn't actually his real name. It was a nickname given to him by Strangelove, derived from the disabled service droid from the film [[Silent Running]], in a not-too-subtle insulting reference to his being handicapped.
