In most fictional universes (and [[Real Life]]), [[Magic aA Is Magic A|things tend to function in a particular, expected way]], and perform that function consistently. But sometimes the plot calls for an item to operate [[New Powers as the Plot Demands|in ways that weren't previously established]]. [[Ass Pull|This effect is unexpected]], or even [[Plot Hole|inconsistent with its previous known functions]]. But it'll [[Railroading|get you through to the next plot point]], and [[MST3K Mantra|that's all that counts]].
