Most obviously both 'Moriarty' and 'Moran' are definitely Irish surnames - the former is from Co. Kerry, the later from Co. Mayo. Morever both would have been born either just before or during the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Famine_<!-- 28Ireland29%28Ireland%29 Great Famine]] which would have been unlikely to engineer positive feelings towards Britain in them. In turn this bitterness towards Britain would eventually lead to crime. -->
