Star Trek: The Next Generation/Headscratchers: Difference between revisions

Line 831:
** I'm certain Q could make the computer neglect to mention Picard has suddenly vanished and it could be that the extradimensional aliens had a similar means of bypassing that security feature.
** Geordi at one point notes that the computer is notorious for not ''volunteering'' information, for a variety of reasons. It may not be constantly monitoring every single person on the ship, among other things. Basically the ship doesn't automatically alert people every time someone leaves the ship because then there'd just be a lot of annoying notifications happening on the bridge.
*** Consider that the firewall program of your computer is capable of informing you of every single instance where a process running on your PC is attempting to access the Internet. Now consider that 99.99999+% of us set that feature to 'Ask me once and then never bother me about that again', and why we did. And that's the exact same reason that the Enterprise computer doesn't tell the bridge every time a crewman comes aboard or leaves, unless its been specifically told that the command crew wants a real-time update on X.
