In early books they are said to be superdense, but in a later book a S'ti'ach character points out the perils of having a lot of mass on a high gravity world. Apparently, this is a rumour spread by the S'ti'ach themselves; they're aware of how cute they look to humanoids, and want to discourage attempts to pick them up and cuddle them.
