A shell-shocked soldier from World War I named Tommy is the only hope for repairing a rift in time. So Torchwood froze him for 90 years, waking him up once a year to check his vitals. Tosh has developed a bit of a crush on him during those days.

This year, during his annual walk about town, Tommy finds out that he has to go back to 1918 the next day. Jack allows him to go home with Tosh so they can enjoy one night together. In a rare moment of sincerity, Owen tells Tosh to be careful, because he knows how much it hurts when [[Torchwood/Recap/S1 /E10 Out of Time|people head home to their own time again]].

Ianto and Jack [[Torchwood/Recap/S2 E1/E01 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang|have been dating for a while now]], and they share a sweet kiss when Jack says he doesn't want to go back to the 51st century anymore.

Tommy is brought back to 1918 to repair a time gap. He also immediately becomes shell-shocked again. Tosh gets through to him and convinces him to use his time repair device, even though she knows he'll be shot for "cowardice" a few weeks later.
