Voiced by: Yūko Gotō |
The other twin princess of the Sunny Kingdom, Rein adores dressing up and gets starry-eyed over romance. She also loves scary things and is more emotionally stable than Fine. Just like Fine loves her cake, Rein has eyes for Bright.
- Cool Loser
- Damsel in Distress: This basically sums up a lot of the Ship Tease scenes between Rein and Shade. Just strike her with a Distress Ball and he'll come running, although this can be justified with the fact that Fine is more athletic than Rein.

- Love Makes You Crazy: Besides ghosts, Rein loves cute boys and playing matchmaker.

Meramera Kingdom
Lione
Voiced by: Misato Fukuen |
Lione is the princess of the Meramera Kingdom. She's very reserved, kind-hearted, and is talented at dancing.
- Catgirl
- Curtains Match the Window
- Demoted to Extra: Lione seemed like she would be part of the main cast from her appearance since she's the first princess Fine and Rein befriend and she was one of the few who received an Image Song. By the middle of the series, she started appearing infrequently and is even grouped with Sophie and Milro.
- Image Song: "Brand New Day"
- Meaningful Name
- Peacock Girl: Lione dons peacock feathers in her samba costume.
- Proper Lady
- Shrinking Violet: Though not as much as Milro, Lione is still a little shy.
- Unusual Ears
Tio
Voiced by: Vanilla Yamazaki (first series episodes 1-25), Shihomi Mizowaki (first series episodes 27-end, Gyu!) |
Tio is the prince of the Meramera Kingdom and Lione's younger brother. He swore on his life to protect Fine and Rein, but he hasn't exactly done that yet. Later, he becomes Shade's self-appointed apprentice to learn his ways.
- Ascended Extra: In the second half of the first series, Tio decides to follow Shade's footsteps and accompanies him on his journey.
- Badass Longcoat: Sure, Tio gets a trenchcoat in the second half of the first series, but he's still not as badass as Shade.
- Butt Monkey: In almost all of his appearances during the first half of the first series, something always goes wrong so much that it becomes a recurring gag. He gets better... sort of.
- Cross-Dressing Voices
- The Other Darrin: Tio's original voice actress, Vanilla Yamazaki, was replaced by Shihomi Mizowaki, who provided his voice for the rest of the original series and reprised the role in Gyu!
- Took a Level in Badass: In episode 32 of the first series, Tio manages to save the Samba Festival.
- Unusual Ears
Jewelry Kingdom
Altezza
Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi |
Altezza is the haughty princess of the Jewelry Kingdom who initially dislikes Fine and Rein on-spot. She's boastful and arrogant, but shows her more introspective sensitive side when it comes to her older brother, Bright, whom she looks up to.
- Alpha Bitch: Altezza is the princess version of this before she gets better.
- Ascended Extra: Altezza was nothing more than the Alpha Bitch in the beginning of the series, but during the second half, she accompanies Fine and Rein on their journey and even gets a costume upgrade.
- Big Brother Worship: Altezza admires Bright greatly to the point that sometimes she gets annoyed when his attention is focused on someone else. This also causes her to be distressed during the second half of the show when Bright succumbs to The Dark Side.
- Bratty Half-Pint
- Break the Haughty
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Don't come between her and her big brother now!
- Hair Decorations
- Hair of Gold
- Hard Work Hardly Works
- Hey, You: Initially, Altezza addresses anyone who isn't Bright as "you."
- Noblewoman's Laugh
- Official Couple: Altezza shows no interest in Auler in the beginning of the show, but by the end, she returns his feelings after he cheers her up during Bright's Face Heel Turn.
- The Ojou
- Shrinking Violet: Due to the manga artist's Alternate Character Interpretation, Altezza was made into this.
- Sibling Team: Altezza likes to team up with Bright, especially during dances.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: While Altezza is rude to Fine and Rein at first, Bright is gentle and friendly.
- Spell My Name with an "S": Before the character fanbook was released with official English romanizations, the fansubs spelled Altezza's name as "Altessa."
- Stop Having Fun Girl
- Tsundere
Bright
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara |
Bright is the prince of the Jewelry Kingdom and is known as the no. 1 idol in the Wonder Planet. He's patient and somewhat of a pacifist, and despite that all the girls adore him, he loves Fine out of them all. This makes him feel threatened when Fine starts hanging around Eclipse...
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Bishonen: Complete with Love Bubbles and Bishie Sparkle.
- Chick Magnet
- Double Entendre: Bright does a rather... inappropriate dance at the Samba Festival to rein in a crowd. Does This Remind You of Anything?
- Evil Costume Switch
- Face Heel Turn: Bright becomes Brainwashed by The Dark Side halfway throughout the first series.
- Fallen Hero
- Harmless Villain: Okay, who gave Bright the Idiot Ball when he wanted to take over the Drop Kingdom by pissing its queen off? He becomes Not So Harmless after he's fully given his Black Prominence powers and especially after his Despair Event Horizon, which strengthens the power of the Black Crystal.
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Confrontations of this lead to Fighting From the Inside.
- Love Makes You Crazy: When Bright realizes that Fine wasn't who he thought she would be, things take a turn for the worse due to his already-crumbling emotional state.
- More Than Mind Control: Bright actually thinks Taking Over The Wonder Planet is right because then he would be able to use his power to make people happy.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Towards the end of Bright's evil rampage, he does this when he realizes everyone has deserted him, including Boomo.
- Nice Guy
- Official Couple: Bright did have feelings for Fine at first, but eventually reciprocates Rein's crush on him.
- Prince Charming: Bright is well-loved among the ladies of the Wonder Planet.
- Sibling Yin-Yang
- Weapon of Choice: Bright uses a Cool Sword, but later trades it in for an oddly shaped Battle Boomerang during his Face Heel Turn.
Moon Kingdom
Shade (Eclipse)
Voiced by: Junko Minagawa |
Shade is the prince of the Moon Kingdom, but masquerades under a secret alias known as "Eclipse." He prefers to carry out his plans in the shadows and becomes somewhat protective over Rein when she is in danger.
- All Girls Want Bad Boys
- Badass Longcoat
- Badass Normal: That one fight scene in episode 26 really shows how badass he can be.
- Big Brother Instinct: Not only is Shade protective of his mom, but he's also fond of Milky. Official profiles state that he is sweet to Milky and likes spoiling her.
- Big Brother Mentor: Shade becomes this to Tio in the second half of the first series, though it was more like Tio following him without his permission.
- Bishonen: Rein even pictures him in Love Bubbles and a Bishie Sparkle once. He's also apparently popular with the maids in the Sunny Kingdom in the manga.
- Chick Magnet
- Code Name: Shade goes under the name "Eclipse" when he's out of the palace in his trenchcoat guise until the second half of the series when Fine and Rein realize who he is. This trope is disregarded in the manga, where "Eclipse" is really his name.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: Junko Minagawa does a believable portrayal of him, since he does sound like an actual prepubescent boy and his voice is deeper than Tetsuya Kakihara (Bright) and Hiro Shimono (Auler), who are both males themselves, but this only gets hilarious when you realize she can't exactly hit the low notes in the Christmas Album.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Official Couple: With Fine.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Look at Shade. Now look at Eclipse. Nice job disguising yourself.
- Secret Identity
- The Rival: Bright viewed Eclipse as this before Shade revealed his identity.
- Weapon of Choice: Sure, he knows how to use a Cool Sword, but he prefers to Whip It Good.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair
Milky
Voiced by: Kazuko Kojima |
Milky is the infant princess of the Moon Kingdom. She loves eating sweets and her older brother, Shade, a lot.
- Big Eater
- Morality Pet
- Pokémon-Speak: Since Milky is only beginning to babble, she can only say "Babu!"
Drop Kingdom
Milro
Voiced by: Sachi Sukigara |
Milro is the shy, artistic princess of the Drop Kingdom.
- Alpha Bitch: Milro was this and The Ojou with a Noblewoman's Laugh in the manga adaptation due to the manga artist's Alternate Character Interpretation of her.
- An Ice Person: In the manga, Milro has ice powers.
- Demoted to Extra: Not that she was part of the main ensemble from the beginning, but she suspiciously doesn't show up very much in Gyu!
- Fan Nickname: The Japanese fans often called her Tanuki, which is Japanese for "raccoon."
- Ice Queen: Milro was this in the manga and even had ice powers!
- Put on a Bus
- Shrinking Violet
- Spell My Name with an "S": Confusion has been abound as to how exactly Milro's name is spelled. In a letter in episode 19 of the first series and the second character fanbook, her name was romanized as "Milro." The first fanbook spelled it as "Mirlo", but it seems to have been a mispelling. The fansubs romanize her name via the Japanese pronunciation, "Miruro." It's commonly accepted that "Milro" is the right spelling and "Mirlo" was just an error that was subsequently corrected in the second fanbook.
- Unusual Ears: Milro has raccoon ears in the anime and ice crystals for ears in the manga.
Windmill Kingdom
Sophie
Voiced by: Rina Satou |
Sophie is the airheaded princess of the Windmill Kingdom.
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Comically Missing the Point
- Fan Nickname: The Japanese fan community nicknamed her "Chikuwa", which is a Japanese tube made of fish paste, after her Unusual Ears.
- Les Yay: Sure, Altezza got paired with Auler, but Sophie gets quite more Ship Tease with her.
- Unusual Ears
Auler
Voiced by: Hiro Shimono |
Auler is the prince of the Windmill Kingdom and is deeply besotted with Altezza.
- Ascended Extra: Auler gets a larger role near the end of the first series due to Character Development with Altezza. Unfortunately, by Gyu!, he was Demoted Back To Extra.
- Dogged Nice Guy: Not because of the Unusual Ears, of course!
- Hopeless Suitor: Until the end of the first series.
- Official Couple: Auler has always liked Altezza, and fortunately, they get together at the end of the first series.
- Put on a Bus
- The Rival: Auler and Bright initially saw each other as this due to the rivalry between the Jewelry and Windmill Kingdoms.
- Unusual Ears

- Heel Face Turn
- Megane
- Put on a Bus: Once his arc was over, he boards a bus for 20 or so episodes.
Noche
- What Could Have Been: Before Gyu! officially aired, preliminary official character descriptions described Noche as a girl. Either the producers made a mistake, They Just Didn't Care, or Noche was originally going to be a girl in the show.
Elizabeta
- Catch Phrase: Count how many times she says "yoki ni hakarae" ("If you'd please") to everything.
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Official Couple: With Fango.
- Red Herring: A lot of people assumed that given Elizabeta's rich status, she would become the new Alpha Bitch in Gyu! She shows her true colors the moment she opens her mouth.
- Spoiled Sweet
- Vocal Dissonance
Shasha & Carla
- Happiness in Slavery
- Hard Work Hardly Works
- Memento MacGuffin:Buttons. Shasha and Carla used to play button football with Elizabeta in their childhood. They still keep those buttons with them.
