Line 1:
A news show made up of one or more documentaries, each longer than a news segment on the nightly news. Frequently showcases investigative journalism. Also known as "newsmagazines" because of the long format of their stories.
Not to be confused with CBC Television's early-90's experiment of running The National and The Journal back-to-back at 9 p.m., although The Journal was a documentary program.
Being such an iconic format, it has naturally been subjected several times to Parody and Satire. The most notable of these are:
* Brass Eye
* Frontline
* FYI, the Show Within a Show from Murphy Brown.
