The Courage series tend to not have many Sympathetic characters except for Muriel and Courage himself (And some minor monsters that have a sad backstory). Most characters are either major Jerkasses, legitimately scary, or just rather stupid.

Main Characters
Courage
Courage
Serves as the titular character who is a pink and black spotted dog (of no known specific breed) who saves his owners Muriel and Eustace from all the creatures. No matter if they're Nightmare Fuel, Uncanny Valley, or just plain weird.

Line 47 ⟶ 46:
* Wild Take: Frequently.

Muriel Bagge
A sweet old lady of Scottish descent who found Courage abandoned by an alley and took him home. She is constantly in danger from the things that come to Nowhere but she always smiles at some point during the episode. And she loves Eustace despite his Jerkass personality. She also loves using vinegar in all of her cooking, and in an early episode picked up playing the sitar and also has a fondness for tea.

Line 74 ⟶ 73:
* Trrrilling Rrrs: Does this sometimes.

Eustace Bagge
A self-proclaimed farmer that tends to be grumpy and isn't really a nice guy to anyone. He thinks he can fix anything and grow anything but this is never the case. He also has a greed for money. Although early on with no backstory whatsoever he seems to deserve what happens to him in each of the episodes when you learn he didn't have that great of a childhood with a non-loving mom and a always better Big Brother he turns into more a Jerkass Woobie and depending who you are you may actually feel sorry for the guy.

Line 129 ⟶ 128:
* Villainous Glutton: A rare skinny example.

Minor Recurring Characters
The Computer
The Computer
A Jerkass helper who Courage commonly goes to for advice on stopping the Big Bad of the episode. His advice for the most part works well, but his insults and sarcastic vibes gets contempt from Courage.

Line 149 ⟶ 147:
* Smug Snake: A heroic example.

Di Lung
A guy of extremely-heavily implied Chinese descent that makes small cameos in episodes where he almost runs into Courage (usually in his car) and says his catchphrase.

Line 223 ⟶ 221:
* You Fool!

Dr. Vindaloo
* Absent-Minded Professor
Line 243 ⟶ 241:
* Morally-Ambiguous Doctorate

Eustace's Mother
Rather equally a Jerkass to her son as he is to Courage, she insults Eustace at every oppurtunity and as a contrast to her son she is nice to Courage. Occasionally she is the antagonist of a few episodes especially when it's something about helping with a company that helps with wigs.

Line 263 ⟶ 261:
* Took a Level in Jerkass: Later episodes after her first appearance seem to have her taking it out at Courage.

Charlie The Mouse
A large delivery mouse who is apparently friends with Courage.

Line 278 ⟶ 276:
* Why Do You Keep Changing Jobs?

Shirley the Medium
A Wizard/Gypsy chihuahua that offers help or sells magical objects at her trailer. She is able to place curses on those who cross her (Usually Eustace) and Courage has to go find her in order to reverse them.

Line 302 ⟶ 300:
* The Trickster

He seems to have great skill at games such as Handball, and an expert at staring contests. Tragically... {{spoiler|He captured Courage's beloved mom and dad, and Courage himself, with plans to send them into space. Although Courage's parents came to the rescue, the doctor sealed them up in a rocket with a one-way trip to the moon in store. Courage was too terrified by this predicament to do anything but escape harm through a garbage chute- only to watch his parents be catapulted into space- in tears. === Violin Girl ===

Violin Girl
Nothing is much known about the character itself, but it's one off appearance in "Big Stinkin' City" is one of those sights a Courage fan never forgets. From the back it looks like a normal girl playing Violin (Though even this is considered Uncanny Valley considering everything else around is animated). But when it turns around it has a scary looking claymation face that brings the Uncanny Valley Up to Eleven as there's realistic looks, animated background, and claymation all in one spot. Though it seems that the girl's face is not always like that, as she appears normal on a television that Eustace is watching later in the episode.

An insane, tiny, old lady with an obsession with lint. Doc Gerbil performed an expirimentexperiment on her that gave her plungers for arms and legs, but she is still able to grab stuff using the suction cups.

The Water Dragon
A water-dwelling dragon that Courage and Muriel meet towards the end of the episode "Food Of The Dragon". He seems scary at first, but turns out to be very friendly. He's William's long-lost brother.

Line 1,514 ⟶ 1,509:
* Trademark Favorite Food: Fish.

Perfect Trumpet Thingy
A blue... thing that appears in the first of Courage's nightmares in "Perfect". Probably one of the series' scariest things, if not the scariest, joining the ranks of King Ramses and the Harvest Moon Spirit in terms of CGI abominations. It appears to be a warped trumpet with a horrible human face stuck on it, or possibly a deformed fetus with a horrible human face stuck on it.
Currently serves as the image for the series' Nightmare Fuel page.
Line 1,534 ⟶ 1,529:
* The Spook

The Blue Fish
A bizarre, blue-scaled, red-finned, green-eyed fish that appears in the bathtub to tell Courage that it's alright to be imperfect and accept his flaws as what makes him unique and beautiful.
