- In Which a Trope Is Described: In which I immediately regret my hubris.
- Mad Scientist: The author. Several comics depict blueprints or inventions, some plausible, others less so. One notable example, the underwater Hamster city known as "Hampture" was actually built and demonstrated via crowdfunding.
- Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Slapping wrong-doers in the past, in hopes of improving the future.
- Time Travel: Utilised mainly for slapping historical figures for their wrongdoing
- What Do You Mean It Wasn't Made on Drugs?: An early strip shows the author snorting smashed up breakfast cereal, and injecting liquified owls into his tear-ducts before drawing a comic in the hallucinogenic haze.
