Pokémon has been getting darker and darker with each release...
Then Pokémon Black and White came along and the horrors were 100% intentional... And yet, the game got away with an E rating.
Line 19:
** Imagine the thought of his plans coming into fruition: after N had done his part and gotten all trainers in all regions to release their Pokemon, only Ghetsis and his followers in "his" Team Plasma would be allowed to have and use Pokemon, meaning they'd change the entire system of Pokemon training so that anyone else having Pokemon would be against the law. Therefore, the masses of the world would be left defenseless against Team Plasma's oppression of them. Through threat of force via their Pokemon's powers, Ghetsis and his cronies get to enslave the entire world. Oh, and he also had the Adamant, Lustrous, and Griseous Orbs for some reason, hinting at goals on a higher scale...
** This man is the undoubted god-king of Fridge Horror in the Pokémon world. Let's list some of the things that are wrong with him:
*** One of the Seven Sages mentions that
****
*** It's revealed at the end that the Pokémon Team Plasma stole
*** If Ghetsis did take over Unova (and he was dangerously close to doing so) the whole Unovan economy would be a complete wreck. Remember that in the games, pretty much everything revolves around Pokémon. And then consider that he was planning on doing this same thing to the rest of the world once he had an army of nearly a region's worth of Pokemon, headed by Reshirem or Zekrom, at his disposal.
**** And Ghetsis' reign won't last long, either. With so many trainers void of Pokémon, all of which are now in one place, and a PC system that can loot boxes to boot, Ghetsis is literally asking for Cipher to come in and take over. And you thought a ruined economy was bad enough...
**** Worse still, Ghetsis seems like the type of person who could very easily win Cipher over and get himself elected their new grand master. He has no qualms with having Pokemon OR people physically harmed (demonstrated further in the sequels) and even seems to get off on torture of all forms, be they physical, emotional, or mental. Added to that, his ultimate goal is nothing short of unlimited power, privilege, domination and total control over everyone and everything thing that lives.
*** There's also the depiction of Ghetsis and Team Plasma in general. Ghetsis is the chief sage of the Team Plasma sages, who are styled like priests. Since N is the king and the Plasma grunts are knights, the sages would represent the Church, who were allied with the king and knights in holy crusades during the middle ages. To Team Plasma, freeing Pokemon is their holy crusade. Thus Ghetsis and his true intentions represents lies, hypocrisy, and corruption of a person who knowingly and maliciously takes advantage of beliefs held sacred by people and twists them into something to suit his dark, selfish ends. He even holds public sermons and preaches on the matters, when in reality he's full of crap. But it gets worse from there: he's outed as an Evil Sorcerer type person who's scheming to take power as a tyrannical, despotic dictator. Hiding this under the ruse of priesthood makes him the lowest scum possible for the series, so thus he gets a makeover once everyone knows what he truly is. He keeps his pointed, horn-like hairstyle, but now wears a black and red visor on his right eye (his left eye is already red.), wraps himself in a Black Cloak with creepy eyeball symbols decorating it, and carries around a staff with the Plasma insignia that is almost pitchfork-esque at a certain glance. So not only has Ghetsis gone from dark priest to all out Evil Overlord, but he's essentially styled as The Devil himself. His original name, G'Cis Harmonia, can even be translated as "the Devil in music." His battle theme sounds like a Dark Reprise to that of Arceus, the God Pokemon, and the opening for the "Episode N" arc of the anime even has him set against a red, fiery, flaming backdrop as he throws back his cape in a very Devil-like fashion. Based on the man's actions and behavior, it's hard not to see this depiction as fitting, but then it really hits you...Satan was running the Church! Is there perhaps some disturbing commentary on religious groups of Knight Templar zealots here?
**** It gets worse - some Biblical Scholars believe that the concept of The Antichrist would have a misshapen or scarred right side, including his right eye and right hand. Not only does Ghetsis match that description, but he also has the deceptive charisma to sway people into following him and his alleged cause as well as the desire for world domination that are also primary Antichrist qualities. So Ghetsis is the Pokemon Worlds' Satan and The Antichrist, with N being the false idol he's made for everyone to worship in service to his devilish agenda.
* Relic Castle. See the Fridge Logic page above. Now it becomes horrifying to think about... Basically, Unova is modeled after New York. The Relic Castle consists of two, broken towers. The Ghost type Yamask and Cofagrigus can be found inside. Yamask is . And now, it haunts The Relic Castle, which, as stated earlier, consists of two broken, burned down towers, in a fictional region based off of New York. Let that sink in for a second.
** Its evolution Cofagrigus is no better- it eats humans and turns them into mummies like Yamask. Now you know how these guys reproduce!
Line 61 ⟶ 62:
* Granted, it gets less creepy and more sad than anything later on when you realize that N probably saw nothing wrong with trapping someone in a confined space, where they can't use their usual means of defense to protect themselves, and telling them that he's basically the leader of a disturbing Most Definitely Not Villainous Animal Wrongs Group. I mean, he just wanted to talk! And that way you couldn't attack him before he could explain things to you! And he totally wants to be your friend! At which point it crosses over into full-on Nightmare Fuel when you learn why he's that way.
** The Above becomes more horrifying in Pokémon Special, where Hilda .
