** His Universe version fits the trope even better. Things were fairly light hearted until he appeared... he cleanly defeats Tenchi's grandfather, kidnaps Ayeka, and gravely wounds Ryoko. From there, Tenchi is forced into a life or death struggle to rescue Ayeka and save Jurai. Azaka, Kamidake and Ryoko all seem to die [[Disney Death|but manage to recover.]]
