He is described as "a thinker", and thinkers apparently aren't very good at just accepting things they can't explain, like prophet children and evil bruising the earth. While Nissa started out as spectacle too [[Broken Masquerade|she's changed her mind completely]] by the time Nathaniel arrives in Cheshunt. Thus they have a good understanding of one another as "thinkers" and generally end up playing the thinking roles.
