Line 14:
* Base Breaker:
** Princess Zelda is popular among some circles for being adorable, having a nice butt, and being one of the most tragic versions of the character, but other people simply find her whiny and dull, with her voice going hand-in-hand with the annoying factor. Her serving as the last line of defense against Calamity Ganon for over a hundred years has also won over fans for being a Crowning Moment of Awesome, but to others it just feels like a dolled-up version of her usual Damsel in Distress treatment.
** Her father King Rhoam is just as controversial as his daughter.
** Ask any Zelda fan what they think of Revali, and you'll probably get an equal amount of responses along the lines of "Oh my god, I love that guy!" and "Oh my god, fuck that guy!". To his fans, his cold, aloof, and downright mean demeanor make him a breath of fresh air compared to the friendlier Champions, and his grudging respect towards Link that builds up while you explore Vah Medoh is a nice bit of character development. But people who hate him simply find him to be too mean to like, making him come across as a total asshole who some argue had his death coming to him.
** Is Calamity Ganon's status as an Eldritch Abomination force of nature a cool new take on the franchise's oldest foe, or does it rob him of his cool factor? These detractors tend to prefer Ganon as a properly sentient Chessmaster and view the Calamity as just a mindless monstrosity that may as well have been its own thing, and his Anticlimax Boss status doesn't help.
Line 23 ⟶ 24:
** If you're playing optimally, Lynels and Guardians are the easiest opponents in the Trial of the Sword. There's just enough Ancient Arrows for both Lynels and the most dangerous Guardian variants, allowing you to instantly kill them the second they try to pick a fight with you.
* Breather Level:
** The path to each Divine Beast has at least one section that can be incredibly tough, with the exception of Vah Medoh. The road to it is in the West coast of Hyrule, which is home to stronger enemies,. butBut it's a straightforward trek through the wilderness with no gimmicks, and gaining Teba's favor so you can confront the beast is as simple as beating a short and easy archery test. Vah Medoh's puzzles and gimmick are also very straightforward, making it a good Beast to start with.
** In the Trial of the Sword, the rare rooms where the only enemies are Chuchus are this, because they all die in one hit from a bomb. Hinox and Stalnox rooms are similarly piss easy, but it's because you can easily stunlock them to death rather than kill them instantly.
** Zigzagged in regards to the "Blessing" shrines. When you find one, the mummified Sheikah Monk will give you a Spirit Orb with no trial attached to it, and there's always a treasure chest with some good loot thrown in as a bonus. However, getting to these shrines is usually a trial in and of itself, but they can still be fairly easy depending on the shrine (One simply requires you to climb on top of a pillar at Skull Lake, for example).
Line 126 ⟶ 127:
** The sounds the Sheikah monks make when they talk. They're eerie, but also seriously cool.
** The theme that plays for parasailing minigames is a light-hearted, cheery tune more in line with past Zelda games rather than this game's more muted soundtrack. It's bound to put a smile on your face due to being pure, concentrated optimism in music form.
* Nausea Fuel:
* One-Scene Wonder:
** Magda, aka the "crazy flower lady". Quite a lot of Memetic Mutations (with an example here).
Line 149 ⟶ 151:
** The Royal Guard weapons. They're strong, sure, but for some ungodly reason they're about as durable as rice paper and break as quickly as the hilariously weak Boko weapons. Too bad that little caveat doesn't apply to enemies.
** Prior to the Trial of the Sword DLC, the Master Sword fell into this territory for some. While it's good for killing the Blight Ganons and Calamity Ganon himself, it used to be a lot weaker when you weren't around Malice. Its paltry 30 strength pales in comparison to the weapons you'll find by the time it's available, and its surprising fragility made it borderline useless against powerful enemies like Lynels, Hinoxes, and silver enemies. A real shame considering that it's Link's signature weapon and all.
* Squick:
** When you kill Octoroks, squirrels, and certain birds, they can drop fish and seeds. Nothing particularly gross about that... until you realize they were in their digestive tract. You sure you still want to cook with them?
** You can brew Monster Guts, beetles, lizards, and dragonflies into bright, colorful potions. They probably taste great given Link's reactions to drinking them, but it's hard not to shudder when he does.
**
* Superlative Dubbing: While the game's English dub is contentious, very few people have problems with Revali's voice. Sean Chiplock's delivery is phenomenal, and perfectly captures his smug, cocksure demeanor while adding a humorous flair to his Jerkass behavior.
* Take That, Scrappy!: The unlockable Tingle outfit added as part of the game's DLC comes off as a walking middle finger to the controversial Manchild. Its defense is terrible, its ability is situational to the point of near-uselessness, and to top it off, wearing it will freak out everyone you talk to.
Line 180 ⟶ 186:
** A few of the races that show up are standard Zelda races: Gerudo, Zora, Gorons... but the appearance of Ritos and Koroks threw plenty of people for a loop, since they're confined to one specific timeline (the Adult timeline). The Rito especially since they're what the Zora would eventually evolve into, but the two races coexist in this game.
* Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Revali falls into this for some. His journal and cutscene in the Champions' Ballad DLC humanize him and shows that he's a self-made man among natural born badasses who struggles with his low self-esteem. As sad as that is, his nasty behavior towards Link and general unpleasantness make it very hard to feel bad for him, especially since his sympathetic backstory and diary entries are quickly undercut by his bullheaded arrogance in later entries.
* WTH Costuming Department:
** The Ancient Armor is well-liked for the most part, but most fans agree that the Ancient Helm bogs the whole set down. Not only is it overly tall and weirdly shaped, but at certain angles it makes Link look like he has a Hitler mustache.
** As part of the game's DLC, you can unlock Rex's outfit from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Unfortunately, it looks really awkward when Link wears it, because it was obviously not made with his proportions in mind.
* The Woobie:
** .
** Poor little Koko. Her mother's dead, and unlike her blissfully unaware sister she knows it. When she isn't crying about it in the outskirts of Kakariko Village, she's ragging on herself for not being anywhere near as good of a cook as she was.
