All The Tropes:Creating New Pages

The ability to easily create new pages is a common feature of most wikis, including this one. First, you should know that most pages are titled with a Wiki Word -- a sequence of capitalized words joined together without spaces between them. For example, the name of this page is Creating New Pages. A Wiki Word within the text of a page automatically becomes a link to the page with that title; if the page does not exist, the link will appear red, and clicking on it will take you to an edit page where you will be able to create the new page. If the page does exist, the link will be blue.

Thus, a simple mechanism to create a new page is to simply edit an existing page and add a Wiki Word title for your new page. The Contributors is a good page in which to make your initial links. Just create an entry on that page for your wiki nickname. Then, after saving the changes to The Contributors, click the link!

Another way to create a new page: in your browser's URL field, replace the name of the current page with the name of the page you wish to create, and hit Enter or do whatever you would normally do to go to a new location. This will bring up a new page with the text "Click the edit button to start this new page." Click on the Edit Page link to edit and save your new page.

Note:

  • Pages for tropes should generally be created by first submitting your idea on the YKTTW; this will help catch potential duplicates and lame tropes, give it a better name, and refine the overall trope. See YKTTW Guidelines for more information.
  • For work pages, they're a free launch and don't need to go through YKTTW, but you should make sure that the page has tropes on it--don't just post a naked description. See How to Create A Works Page for more detailed instructions.
  • When creating any sort of page, please put in a little effort and do it right:
    • Flesh it out some; don't make Wiki Magic do all the work (lest you incur the wrath of the gods).
    • Add the appropriate index markups and try also to link to your page from some other places in the wiki.
  • And, most importantly, lurk moar.
