For the uninformed, the Hamptons are on the far eastern end of Long Island, more than a hundred miles east-southeast of the southernmost locations anyone could reasonably refer to as "upstate New York". More succinctly, one goes ''north'' from New York City to go "upstate", and ''east'' to get to the Hamptons. "Sinyk" also apparently thought that Wales was an island separate from Great Britain, describing a Welsh estate purchased by Harry as being "in the center of the island".
