Alas, Poor Scrappy: Jody is a huge manchild and jerkass. However, some viewers thought the scenes where Juanita doesn't apologize for falsely accusing him for planting weed in the garden and Juanita choosing Melvin over him (because yes, Jody provoked him, but Jody is still her child) granted him some sympathy.
Anvilicious: The movie is hardly subtle about its message. In fact, it actually opens with a scene depicting a nude, fully grown Jody in a womb as Tyrese Gibson's voiceover delivers the quote that tops the main page. The scene ends with Jody screaming as the womb shakes and he's about to be born, symbolizing his need to grow up and leave the nest.
Narm: Most scenes between Snoop Dogg and Jody's son.
- The scenes were supposed to be serious, but you know you can't help but laugh at the line, "Fuck yo fort, little nigga".
Jerkass Has a Point: Newer or viewers that have grew up with film will point this out. Yes, Melvin was good to Juanita and did have a points about the way Jody was acting. However, due to him being revealed to be a killer and abuser, Jody does in fact have a right to be worried about his and his mom's well-being.
Unintentionally Unsympathetic: How Juanita is perceived these days regarding her parenting. Her falsely accusing Jody of planting weed in her garden and not apologizing about it and her choosing Melvin over Jody (since yes, he provoked him, but he's still her child) have not painted her in the best light. She has also been called out on the fact, despite how much she herself complains about it, she is one of the worst enablers of Jody in the film.
- Zig-zagged with Yvette. While she is still seen as a sympathetic figure by the audience, she's also a lot more likely to be called out on the fact she also enabled Jody and that their relationship was dysfunctional on both sides.
