[[Die for Our Ship|Ship wars abound]] in anime and manga fandom. The presence of DFOS is almost guaranteed in any case where the protagonist has multiple love interests. Some shows have even gotten bad enough to warrant their own pages:

* Aoyama Masaya of ''[[Tokyo Mew Mew]]'', Ichigo's [[Official Couple|canon love interest]]. Fans who prefer Ichigo with the [[Jerk with a Heart of Gold]] or the [[Stalker with a Crush]] often portray him as either an unimportant idiot who is quickly discarded or an evil mastermind who is cheating on her with Miwa or Moe or both. (Or Minto in a double pairing derailment, if the shippers happen to come from the section of the fanbase that believes Yuri Is Ew.) Either interpretation completely ignores his kind, intelligent, loyal canon personality. He usually ends up run over by a semi.

** Let's just say that Videl isn't exactly liked by Mirai-Trunks/Gohan shippers. Or Gohan/Current-Timeline Trunks shippers. Or really, just expect some Videl-bashing from shippers who pair Gohan up with anyone who isn't Videl.

*** Piccolo/Gohan shippers either portray Videl as a horrible person or have her be the supportive best friend, depending on how old Gohan is in the fan fic.

** Ignoring the non-shippers who [[The Scrappy|dislike]] male lead character Yuuichi Tate for being [[Non-Action Guy|largely useless]] (and [[Spotlight-Stealing Squad|stealing the spotlight in the manga]], to the point that some fans have [[Discontinuity/Anime|sworn off the manga adaptation entirely]] simply because he's in it), those who write him in fanfic at all keep [[The Hero|Mai Tokiha]] the hell away from him [[Fan-Preferred Couple|in favor of hooking her up with]] [[Cute Bruiser|Mikoto Minagi]]. This is complicated even further because of the constant [[Les Yay]] Mai and Mikoto share on-screen, and because {{spoiler|even though Mai feels like she'd be better as Mikoto's [[Cool Big Sis]], she actually tells ''Mikoto'' "I love you" ''before'' saying the same about Tate, even in the final episode's [[Omake]].}}

*** There's also some Yuuichi bashing by Shizuru/Natsuki shippers, since in the manga, Natsuki's pursuing him, and he's her Key instead of Shizuru ({{spoiler|Then again, Yuuichi ''also'' gets together with Mai in the manga}}.

* Oh, ''[[Princess Tutu]]'' fandom. No matter how human she is, how much she hurts for being abused by her evil father {{spoiler|and her love interest when he turns evil}} and how she actually learns from her mistakes, [[Ojou|Rue]]/[[Dark Magical Girl|Princess Kraehe]] keeps getting crap from rabid Mytho/Ahiru fans for stealing Mytho from [[Possession Sue|the Sue-fied version of Ahiru]] they have in their minds. {{spoiler|Nevermind that later Ahiru bonds much more with Mytho's [[The Lancer|companion Fakir]], and how Mytho ultimately ''chooses'' Rue as his Princess ''freely'', after she [[Calling the Old Man Out|rejects her evil father]] and pulls a [[Tear Jerker|heart-wretching]] [[Heroic Sacrifice]].}}

** Not to mention a datebook that explicitly states Ahiru's feelings for Mytho are actually those of admiration, and that {{spoiler|she's totally fallen for Fakir by the very end of the series.}}

* In a Ranka vs. Sheryl debate on a ''[[Macross Frontier]]'' forum thread, Ranka gets criticized for being a "barely legal loli [[Moe Moe|moeblob]]", while Sheryl gets flak for her overly flirty attitude and [[Rich Bitch|her somewhat selfish, overbearing personality]], even if onscreen, when both are not being rivals to each other about Alto, they have somewhat of a [[Sempai-Kohai]] relationship, and care for each other a lot (which has more than a [[Les Yay]] whiff, for some).

** The series producer (or director/creator, can't remember), said that "[[Tenchi Solution|Being with only one girl isn't the only way to go]]", which could be a massive [[Take That]] to [[First Girl Wins]] and/or [[Last Girl Wins]].

** To a lesser degree than the others, [[Depraved Bisexual|Haruhi]]/[[Moe|Mikuru]] and Kyon/Haruhi. Aside of the already mentioned incidents, Kyon gets bashed by [[Les Yay|Haruhi/Mikuru]] shippers for being a threat to ''both'' sides of their ship.

** And funnily, the Itsuki/Kyon shippers are just bitter about it all: Pages and pages of Itsuki [[True Art Is Angsty|angst]], at times turning him into a [[Wangst|complete]] [[Depraved Homosexual|psycho]] concerning his inability to be with Kyon, especially because of God-Haruhi, though not [[Bury Your Gays|limited]] to it (albeit usually inside his head)... Though given his charade...

** Which is incredibly confusing since Siesta is generally, and '''consistently''', kind and caring towards Saito while Louise has a [[Hair-Trigger Temper]] and will beat him into an inch of his life, well after she develops feelings for him.

*** There's quite a bit of [[Double Standard]] there, too. While Louise is flat-chested, moody, tempery and confused about what love and romance are, Siesta is well-endowed, sexy, aware of her good-looks and willing to use them for her own benefit. You know what that means: slut-shaming of Siesta BY THE WAZOO! (Paired with Louise over-glorification because, for lots of people, [[Abuse Is Okay When It Is Female On Male]])

*** The first anime also had Ed/Winry vs Ed/Rose (and slight Ed/Noa). Ed/Win and Ed/Rose fans don't have much of a liking toward the rival character, but both seem to dislike Noa who is already [[The Scrappy]]. It doesn't help that Winry has an [[Identical Grandchild]], and Ed is wearing automail, in an OVA; and that Winry most likely has an [[Identical Stranger]] in the [[Alternate Universe]].

* ''[[Science Ninja Team Gatchaman]]'' is a refreshingly calm and wank-free fandom, but that hasn't stopped some authors from making [[Celibate Hero|Ken]] into an asshole as a set-up for the [[Tsundere|Jun]]/[[Dumb Muscle|Ryu]] pairings, or one particular [[Slash Fic|Ken/Joe]] writer from demonizing Jun into a [[Clingy Jealous Girl]] of the worst kind.

* This happens quite often to Keiko Yukimura in ''[[Yu Yu Hakusho]]'', as fans either love her and think she's a great match with Yusuke or hate her and usually make her out to be a jealous bitch (or kill her) so that they can pair him with Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, or an [[Original Character]]. The same thing also happens to {{spoiler|Mukuro}}, Hiei's {{spoiler|boss and potential love interest,}} who is made out to look like a man and be a power-hungry maniac, if she's mentioned at all, in order to facilitate his hooking up with Kurama. Which is a shame, as {{spoiler|the two share [[The Masochism Tango|a sweet, if at the same time somewhat disturbing relationship]], especially in the manga.}}

** We can't forget the hate [[The Lancer|Kuwabara]] gets for not being a bishie and turning into putty when he's next to [[An Ice Person|Yukina]], can we? Yeah, a good part of the hate isn't pairing based, but some Kurama/Yukina fans ''do'' have huge hate-ons for Kuwabara, so...

* An alternate-universe OVA series for ''[[Da Capo]]'', in which the [[Fan-Preferred Couple|fan-preferred]] Kotori wins, was released several years after the original series. In this series, {{spoiler|[[Die for Our Ship]] is ''actually'' invoked: Nemu is shown to have died some time before the story begins.}} A number of fans were... quite happy about this.

* Probably the current #1 cause of dislike for Kaaya from ''[[The Tower of Druaga (anime)|The Tower of Druaga]]'', with many fans believing that Jil had more chemistry with Fatina than he ever had with Kaaya.

** Also, certain shippers actually ''like'' the idea of Doumeki's [[Ho Yay]] with Watanuki being [[One Sided Shipping|one-sided]]. It's not so much that they ''like'' Watanuki/Himawari as that, in that way, Watanuki is completely clueless to Doumeki's feelings for him.

* ''[[Lupin III]]'' fandom is small enough -- and the [[Estrogen Brigade]] portion of it especially so -- that people don't actively flame one another, for the most part. The Lupin/Jigen, Jigen/Goemon, Lupin/Goemon and Lupin/Zenigata shippers can often hold quite civil and mature conversations with one another. What they ''will not'' tolerate is Lupin/Fujiko. Or ''Anyone''/Fujiko, for that matter. Granted, she's devious as a cat and twice as manipulative, but you'd be hard pressed to find any named character on the show who ''isn't''. The Lupin fangirls hate her because she's "mean" to their cute little thief (who harasses every attractive woman he meets, including her); the Goemon fangirls don't care for her 'cause she seduced then dumped their man in the first season (the only really justified complaint on this list); the Jigen fangirls agree with their adorably scruffy gunman, that she's "trouble" (again, [[Weirdness Magnet|take look at the]] [[Cartwright Curse|others' track records]]); and the Zenigata fangirls (yep, they exist) just think she's a [[Real Women Never Wear Dresses|vapid bimbo]] ([[Action Girl|who is capable of building an explosive device powerful enough to destroy a solid oak door]] [[The Smart Guy|but small enough to fit inside a high heel.]] This isn't even taking into account the number of times she's saved her male compatriots' necks by charming her way into serving as [[The Mole]] when needed. Or the number of times she's [[I Was Just Passing Through|freaked out at the thought of Lupin being in peril)]].

* ''[[Full Metal Panic!]]'': Gauron/Sōsuke shippers really don't like Kaname. Especially noticeable after the actions of Kaname in the later novels, where quite a few fans [[Abandon Shipping|Abandoned Ship]] and actually came to the conclusion that Sōsuke would have been better off continuing with being the [[The Stoic|emotionless]], Assassin Saint Kashim and ending up with Gauron. In fact, there are actually numerous fans of the pairing that feel that Gauron ''loved Sōsuke and understood him more than Kaname''. Therefore, they "matched together better." This is, of course, ignoring all the [[Stalker with a Crush|incredibly creepy]] and disturbing things that [[Yandere|Gauron]] did, such as being a [[Memetic Molester|pedophile molester]] that desired and obsessed over Sōsuke since the latter was ''[[Shotacon|twelve]]'', killed (or attempted to) [[Murder the Hypotenuse|all of Sosuke's friends / love interests]], laid waste to an entire city just so he could get off on seeing Sōsuke's [[Heroic BSOD|depressed face]] one last time, and fantasizing about raping Sōsuke's corpse.

* Mainly averted with [[Katekyo Hitman Reborn]]. While Tsuna is in love with Kyoko, she is a bit of a [[Shallow Love Interest]] and most fans just ignore her existence or Tsuna's crush on her. Then again, there are [[Cast Full of Pretty Boys|more guys]] with big parts than the girls in this series

* Kaorin from ''[[Azumanga Daioh]]'' is often portrayed as an evil, scheming [[Yandere]] bitch who will try to steal Sakaki away from Chiyo-chan... or Tomo, or Osaka, or whoever the preferred partner is.

* Crazy as it might sound, a fair number of [[One Piece|Zoro/Robin]] fans seem bitter towards Franky and tend to dismiss or bash him as immature and weird, which probably stems from how he's had a lot more meaningful interaction/character development with Robin than Zoro despite being on the same side for a shorter period of time. That's all. Seriously.

*** Some [[Boys Love|BL]] fans deride Nami for being an "abusive control freak" (AKA, typical type A [[Tsundere]]) and Luffy/Nami fans sometimes claim Hancock has no right to behave the way she does because ''[[Too Dumb to Live|there's no way a 12 year old slave girl could ever be seriously abused sexually or otherwise''.]]

**** Let's state the bottom line that any example of this trope in OP fandom is uniquely insane for what should be [[No Hugging, No Kissing|obvious]] [[Chaste Hero|reasons.]]

** {{spoiler|Matilda Simons}} is hated by [[Yaoi Fangirls]] because she had sex with {{spoiler|Sebastian}} in episode 17. {{spoiler|([["It's Not Rape If You Enjoyed It"|Even though it seems that wasn't exactly consensual]])}}

* ''[[After School Nightmare]]'''s Kureha Fujishiro. Yeah, she's a [[Clingy Jealous Girl]] who finds solace in Mashiro's company because she [[Does Not Like Men]], but still... ''Poor, poor'' {{spoiler|horribly sexually abused}} ''Kureha''. It's only made even worse by the [[Draco in Leather Pants]] status granted to [[Casanova|Sou Mizuhashi]], Mashiro's other love interest, even when he's kind of a [[Bastard Boyfriend]]...

** Of course, one probable reason for so little of this is the fact that most shippers' attention is focused on [[Schoolgirl Lesbians|Setsuna/Konoka]], and ''everybody'' hates the [[Stalker with a Crush|major]] [[Psycho Lesbian|person]] trying to get in the way of ''that''.

* ''[[Saiyuki]]'' being an extreme [[Ho Yay]] fodder, this treatment is usually typical for any of the ladies. Especially [[Ms. Fanservice|Yaone]], who on top of being a [[Real Women Never Wear Dresses|girly, assertive female]], also gets in the way between Hakkai/any of the Sanzou group, or [[Foe Yay|Goku/Kougaiji]].

* Go to the ''[[Konjiki no Gash Bell]]'' fandom and ask whether [[Girl Next Door|Suzume]] or [[Idol Singer|Megumi]] would be better for [[Kid with the Leash|Kiyomaro]]. You'll find yourself trapped between Megumi/Kiyomaro fans who scream that Suzume is [[The Ditz|too brainless]] [[Damsel in Distress|and helpless]] for him and Suzume/Kiyomaro fans who yell back that Megumi is too much of a [[Mary Sue]] to deserve Kiyomaro's love.

* [[The Messiah|Tohru Honda]]. Not only is she attacked by ''[[Fruits Basket]]'' fans for [[Real Women Never Wear Dresses|being too "weak" and "stupid"]] or "a [[Purity Sue]]", but she also comes under fire for getting in the way of [[Ho Yay|Kyo/Yuki]]. And let's not forget the hate and [[Character Exaggeration]] [[Jerk with a Heart of Gold|Kyo]] gets from rabid [[White Prince|Yuki]]/Tohru fans because {{spoiler|Tohru ended up with him and not Yuki}} even though it's also established that {{spoiler|Yuki's interest in Tohru [[Loving a Shadow|stemmed from him viewing her as a mother figure]]}}.

* ''[[Toward the Terra]]'' is largely [[Cast Full of Pretty Boys|too free of any potentially interfering female characters]] for this trope to prevail. But Artella takes a hit from it for demonstrating clear romantic interest in Tony (and actually being in a relationship with him in the manga) when fans prefer to pair him with [[The Hero|Jomy]].

* [[Ill Girl|Ill Boy]] Takaaki in ''[[Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z]]'' took quite the heat from Bubbles/Boomer shippers, not to mention the general Powerpuffs/Rowdyruffs shippers who migrated to the series in hopes that the girls would hook up with their evil counterparts. Any other male that the Powerpuffs showed interest in also got skewered hard, as they weren't as "edgy or interesting" as the Rowdyruff Boys. That is, the same Rowdyruff boys who were barely major villains to begin with and only appeared in two episodes of this adaptation.

* The ''[[Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two.]]'' fandom is very small, but there ''is'' quite the hate towards [[Tsundere|Kei Shindou]] for getting in between [[Reclusive Artist|Hiro Hirono]] and [[Manic Pixie Dream Girl|Miyako Miyamura.]]

* It's hard to determine who is hated more for "getting in between" [[The Woobie|Ritsuka]] and [[Manipulative Bastard|Soubi]] in [[Loveless]]: [[Huge Schoolgirl|Yuiko]] or [[Christmas Cake|Hitomi-sensei]].

* In [[Mirai Nikki]], Yuno Gasai loves Yukiteru "Yukki" Amano. Then, Akise Aru also falls for Yukiteru. Yukiteru's feelings are more directed to Yuno than Akise, who happens to be [[Ho Yay|male]] like him, and Yuno is the most popular character of the series due to her ''[[Yandere|strong]]'' feelings, [[Dark Action Girl|her fighting skills]] and [[Ms. Fanservice|her physical beauty]]. Guess what, Akise is ''loathed'' by the fandom, and Yuno/Yukki fans even ''cheered'' {{spoiler|when Yuno killed him.}}

** It goes both ways, acually. The Akise/Yukki shippers hate Yuno for the reasons mentioned above and claim that Yukki being with Akise is a much healthier relationship than with [[Yandere|Yuno]]. This is backed up by {{spoiler|Akise getting killed and proving that Yuno plans on killing him just to start the whole game over.}} Fortunately, this [[Ship-to-Ship Combat]] is only on forums online.

* Rei Miyamoto from [[Highschool of the Dead]] not only gets slamed for being a borderline [[Faux Action Girl]] ''and'' daring to [[The Mourning After|be troubled over her boyfriend Hisashi's death]], but for being in between [[Anti-Hero|Takeshi Komuro]] and [[Lady of War|Saeko Busujima]].

* You know [[CLAMP School Detectives]] fans are way too invested in [[Ho Yay]] shipping (This ''is'' [[CLAMP]], after all) when they pour hatred on ''a kindergarten girl'' like Nagisa because Suoh likes her romantically when he could be more invested in Nokoru. Her best friend Utako manages to mostly dodge hate, mostly because she's paired up with Akira and thus she takes him outta the picture.

** Worst of all, many a fan would do ''anything'' to justify Filia/Xellos, with the snare being that, with them being polar opposite races (Filia a dragon serving a godly race, and Xellos a powerful demon serving the monster race), and Xellos being unable to feel emotions at all per [[Word of God]], it would be canonically impossible for them to be romantically involved. Some justify that Xellos and Filia bicker like an old couple, whereas his passive-aggressiveness is most certainly ''not so.'' And those who prefer Xellos/Filia take down anyone who prefers Filia/[[Jerkass Woobie|Valgaav]].

** Finally, the emo-tastic nature of the unplausible [[Ho Yay|Zelgadis/Xellos]] bashes just about every other pair.

* [[Sakamichi no Apollon]] is starting to get this. Because how ''dares'' Ritsuko be a cute girl and catch Kaoru's romantic attentions when, according to some [[Yaoi Fangirl|yaoi fangirls]], there's only [[Ho Yay]] making out with Sentarou to be done!
