Mostly because they intentionally form a symbiotic relationship with their villages—they get blood and a mostly safe place to live, tourism (one is even mentioned as having a ''gift shop'') and give the local community something to feel good about. Namely, having beat a ''vampire'' (or, in the case of the ladies, having been beautiful enough to be kidnapped by one).
