Her [[Love Makes You Crazy|affection]] for Sasuke seems to contribute to this, as she frequently stands around watching him play the [[Ineffectual Loner]]. Following the timeskip and the strengthening of both her [[Character Development|character]] and [[Extraordinarily Empowered Girl|abilities]], her infatuation for Sasuke levels off and she is finally able to get off the sidelines... for two arcs (the Sasori arc and the Sai introductory arc), then it's back to being moving scenery.

** Ten-Ten is either this or an [[Action Girl]] subject to a ''serious'' helping of [[The Worf Effect]].

*** Well, it does help that unlike other Naruto contenders Ten-Ten actually shows genuine fighting skills and aggressiveness... she just ''continually'' gets match-ups vs. ridiculously more powerful characters, or characters whose powers are exactly her kryptonite. For the crowning example, forcing the thrown weapons expert to fight the flying wind mistress (who can just hover out of arms' reach and then wave away anything she throws at her by controlling the air currents) was about as unfair as making a guy with water-control powers fight Aquaman, especially since there were any # of potential match-ups available for her to draw in the tournament that she could have curbstomped. This is as compared to her peer Sakura, whose only hope of beating ''anyone'' entered into that tournament would have been if they suffered a spontaneous heart attack as soon as they entered the ring (and who did indeed manage to still get herself eliminated vs. the single weakest opponent she could possibly have drawn).

** Hinata's mentor Kurenai is pretty much the a mild shounen spin on a [[Magical Girl]] - she's an adult character and the pretty, well respected ''mistress of illiusion'' - yet didn't compare to the teen [[Master of Illusion]] and was the first to get KO'd whilst fighing alongside her [[Token Girl|male peers]] in her debut battle.

** [[Hair of Gold|Yuugito]] [[Playing with Fire|Nii]] being a [[Sealed Inside a Person-Shaped Can|Tailed Beast host]] ''should'' mean being a badass especially when having [[Power Levels|one more tail than]] [[Dishing Out Dirt|Gaara,]] but being [[Bus Crash|curb-stomped off screen]] by [[Hero-Killer|Hidan and Kakazu]] proved otherwise despite [[Informed Attribute|being well-respected in her home village.]]
