As for the ice, maybe there's an ice dispenser somewhere on the ship that makes the stuff really fast, in the medbay if nowhere else (for exactly that reason). And Simon definitely does have a fridge in there, too. |

Similarly, even if they did have some sort of cold-storage room or refrigerator somewhere, perishables put in a fridge don't last for weeks of transit time. Supply, demand, economics, and cost are still the big factor here. |
