Though most of the show is just [[Mind Screw|surreal]], some segments have [[Nightmare Fuel|twisted the surreal a little too far]].
* A few moments are quite scary, most of them involving Anthy and Akio.
* The first real example of nightmare fuel came with the first episode of Black Rose arc, showing us how [[Mind Rape|Mikage and Mamiya recruits the Black Rose Duelists]]. Akio's fiancee Kanae
** Pretty much any time anybody goes into the elevator and crosses the [[Despair Event Horizon]].
*** To add some extra [[Fridge Horror]] to that, {{spoiler|the Mamiya we see throughout most of this arc, including this scene, is an illusion acted out by none other than Anthy; in other words, ''Anthy'' is the one who stabbed Kanae!}} Brr.

* Some of the later shadow girl plays sneak into this territory. There's even a borderline [[Gory Discretion Shot]] when one of the shadow girls ''breaks the other one in half''. [[Hell Is That Noise|A disturbingly realistic squishy, snapping sound is included, of course]], and somehow, B-ko's deadpan "ow" afterwards makes it even worse.

* In the first episode, Utena recognizes Dios's scent on the Rose Bride. Later, we find out that
** Oh, and there's also the fact that {{spoiler|Akio}}, who is [[Really Seven Hundred Years Old]], is posing as the principal of a high school where he frequently coerces the students into sex in the back of his [[Cool Car]]...''while he's driving''. He even slept with three students on-screen and was engaged to one of them (whom he {{spoiler|had POISONED. Again, poor Kanae.}})!
* Utena and Anthy [[Freaky Friday Flip|switch bodies]] in one episode. The switch lasts for at least a couple of days, if not a week. And once a week Anthy goes to visit her brother... {{spoiler|Therefore, it's highly likely that Akio got a taste of Utena far earlier than even she thought. And without her consent.}}

* In episode 37 Anthy casually mentions Cantarella, a deadly poison. In response, Utena comments that she "put a lot of poison" in Anthy's tea.

* Speaking of that arc, there's the way the Black Rose duellists draw swords from the student council members, complete with intensely creepy sexual subtext. The most notable ones are {{spoiler|Shiori drawing Juri's sword}} (''very slowly'', at that, and the noises of pain Juri makes almost sounds like [[Does This Remind You of Anything?|something]] [[Near

Most elevator scenes in the Black Rose arc feature a picture of a butterfly on the wall that turns into a chrysalis, then a caterpillar, then a leaf (presumably with eggs on it) as the duelist-to-be comes closer and closer to their breaking point; therefore, it says a lot about how damn hard {{spoiler|Wakaba}} snaps when that picture is ''already a caterpillar'' when we see her in there!
* Also, in the first arc when Anthy's alone in the classroom singing that bunnies all in a row or whatever song and doing the thing with her hands.
* For me, the creepiest moment has to be in Nanami's first Akio Arc Duel Episode, Her Tragedy, when Anthy is spoon-feeding Akio shaved ice. Most specifically, in the original Japanese when she says -

For all it looks like, the situation looks completely normal, with no ominous visual clues that remind you that it is all a facade. Unlike the scene where Anthy smiles at Akio after having sex, if someone with no previous SKU experience watched this scene, they would be unable to tell that Anthy's submissive behavior is empty.
** No, the real creepiness in this part of SKU comes from the fact that it is one of Anthy's best moments of acting -and for an incredibly sinister purpose; to torment Nanami into dueling by twisting and misleading her in regards to her views on siblings, princes and princesses, and sex. How fucking '''destroyed''' inside you have to be to do that?

* In the ''very first minute'', we see {{spoiler|Akio is up to his old tricks again. First, we see Akio and Anthy standing together, looking out the window of the tower. The next moment, he's no longer there, and we switch to him appearing as Dios to Utena, who is mourning as a child.}}
* A flashback shows that {{spoiler|Akio slipped a drug into his sister Anthy's drink and then took advantage of her sexually}}. This is icky enough, but it then goes on to show that afterwards {{spoiler|he realized that she was awake and began to panic, and wound up stabbing her and then falling out a window to his death}}. Yikes.

** And just after that scene, Anthy is swinging an axe and looks ''very close'' to decapitating Utena.
* The first ''Utena'' light novel has a rather creepy sex scene between {{spoiler|Touga and Miki(!)}}. The consent is dubious, it's obviously manipulative, and then there's {{spoiler|Touga}}'s evil little smile at the end of the scene.
* Also from the novel: Kozue's breakdown at the piano, where she keeps slamming on the keys and screaming for Utena to get out of her and Miki's special place.
