* There's a non-school example in ''[[Aria {(manga)|Aria]]'', wherein which there are two different levels of apprentice gondoliers. As a result, Aika calls Alice "kohai" and Alice calls Aika and Akari "sempai", even though the three of them work for different companies. (Akari is on a [[First-Name Basis]] with everybody.)
