that he would not defile himself with the king's dainties, nor

with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the

prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

{{verse|1|9}} Now God made Daniel to find kindness and compassion in the sight

of the prince of the eunuchs.

{{verse|1|10}} And the prince of the

should drink, and gave them pulse.

men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions

to be slain.

prudence to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, who was gone

forth to slay the wise men of Babylon;

said to Arioch the king's captain, Wherefore is the decree so

urgent from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to

Daniel.

{{verse|2|16}} And Daniel went in, and desired of the king that

he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the

interpretation.

{{verse|2|17}} Then Daniel went to his house, and made

the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his

companions:

{{verse|2|18}} that they would desire mercies of the God of

unto us the king's matter.

men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show

unto the king the interpretation.

Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have

found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah, that will

make known unto the king the interpretation.

answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art

thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and

the interpretation thereof?

king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded can

neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, show

unto the king;

{{verse|2|28}} but there is a God in heaven that

revealeth secrets, and he hath made known to the king

Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and

the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these:

thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed,

what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth

secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass.

{{verse|2|30}} But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom

that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the

interpretation may be made known to the king, and that thou

mayest know the thoughts of thy heart.

{{verse|2|31}} Thou, O king,

sawest, and, behold, a great image. This image, which was

mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee;

and the aspect thereof was terrible.

{{verse|2|32}} As for this image,

its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver,

its belly and its thighs of brass,

{{verse|2|33}} its legs of iron, its

feet part of iron, and part of clay.

{{verse|2|34}} Thou sawest till

that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image

upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them in

pieces.

{{verse|2|35}} Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the

that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the

whole earth.

secret.

of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of

which made me afraid; and the thoughts upon my bed and the

visions of my head troubled me.

might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

{{verse|4|7}} Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and

the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did

not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar,

according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of

the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, [saying],

{{verse|4|9}} O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the

spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth

thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the

interpretation thereof.

{{verse|4|10}} Thus were the visions of my head

upon my bed: I saw, and, behold, a tree in the midst of the

earth; and the height thereof was great.

{{verse|4|11}} The tree grew,

and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and

the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.

mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, [saying], O king

Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken: The kingdom is departed

from thee:
