It's Dante's Divine Comedy with robots, and the first 9 episodes represent the circles of Hell, with the ultra depressing episode 9 being the center of Hell. The series is similarly called "Sins" because it deals with the theme of Sin, Atonement, and Redemption as did the three parts of the Divine Comedy.
