Catherine Breillat is the undisputed queen of Euroshlock.
Her films tend to be explorations of female sexuality. She has been accused on occasion of being misandrist, with many of the female characters in her films being subject to victimization by men.
She has cited David Cronenberg as a director with a similar approach to sexuality. It's unclear if he appreciates the endorsement.
Had a brief appearance in Last Tango in Paris, which is an obvious influence on her own films.
Her films include:
- Anatomy of Hell
- Fat Girl
- The Last Mistress
- A Real Young Girl
- Romance
- Sex is Comedy
