  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The reception of the story's conclusion was was somewhat marred by what became a minor scandal over the identity and gender of co-author Ichinohei Hitomi. Although their name was always understood to be a pseudonym -- it's the back-formation of a genuine Japanese name for the Ninja High School character originally known as "Itchy-Koo", used in later issues of the comic -- they convincingly presented as female online and was accepted as such until a face-to-face meeting with another author from the Anime Fanfic Mailing List (FFML) which... went badly on both sides. The entire matter blew up on the FFML, almost sinking the fic right at its end, and afterwards the "Hitomi" persona was never seen again.
  • Reality Subtext: As noted above, co-author Ichinohei Hitomi was a transwoman; further, Nightelf, born male, realized his own gender dysphoria while writing this story.
