Co-Dragons: Difference between revisions

* In ''[[Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure (Manga)|Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure]]'', [[Big Bad|Dio Brando]] has both [[Undying Loyalty|Vanilla Ice]] and [[Knight Templar|Enrico Pucci]]. The former shows up for a several-chapter fight with the heroes near the end of Part 3, while the latter is the main antagonist of Part 6 and plays a much larger role in the story.

** Lord Gandal and Minister Zurill from ''[[UFO Robo Grendizer (Anime)|UFO Robo Grendizer]]'' were Big Bad King Vega [[Co Dragons]].

* Invoked in ''[[Eyeshield 21 (Manga)|Eyeshield 21]]'' by the [[Opposing Sports Team|Hakushuu Dinosaurs]], who the Devil Bats face in the Kantou Regional Finals. [[Manipulative Bastard|Marco]], the [[Big Bad|team captain]] describes [[The Juggernaut|Juggernaut]] and [[Blood Knight]] [[Worlds Strongest Man|Gaou]] (lineman) as his Right Hand, and [[In Love With Your Carnage]] [[Bishonen]] [[Sissy Villain|pretty boy]] [[Psycho Supporter|Kisiragi]] (cornerback) as his Left Hand. Between the two of them they more or less carry Hakushuu, with Gaou breaking the opposing line and quarterbacks, while Kisiragi shuts down the recievers and runs interception. Both have a lot of respect for Marco and one another, and are out to prove their strength to the world, no matter what methods they have to use.

* In the earlier [[Sean Connery]] [[James Bond (Film)|Bond]] movies (except ''[[Goldfinger (Film)|Goldfinger]]''), the main villains in ''[[Dr. No (Film)|Dr. No]]'', ''[[From Russia With Love (Film)|From Russia With Love]]'', and ''[[Thunderball (Film)|Thunderball]]'' serve as [[Co Dragons]] for overall [[Big Bad]] Blofeld. Interestingly, in ''From Russia With Love'', both [[The Baroness|Rosa Klebb]] and [[The Chessmaster|Kronsteen]] carry out the villainous plan with Blofeld's oversight, and are clearly antagonistic with one another. [[Evil Genius|Dr. No]] and [[Ruthless Modern Pirates|Emilio Largo]] run their own respective operations for Blofeld.

* In ''[[Enter the Dragon]]''. Bolo and O'Hara serve as [[Co Dragons]] to Mr. Han.

* [[Multi Armed and Dangerous|General]] [[Hero Killer|Grievous]], [[Dragon With an Agenda|Count]] [[Well Intentioned Extremist|Dooku]] and [[One Man Army|Darth]] [[Blood Knight|Maul]] are this for [[Big Bad|Darth]] [[Chessmaster|Sid]][[Chronic Backstabbing Disorder|ious]].

* In ''[[Harry Potter (Franchise)/Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince|Harry Potter]]'', when Bellatrix Lestrange rises to become [[The Dragon]] to Lord Voldemort, she's unpleasantly surprised to discover that {{spoiler|Severus Snape}} has gained the same standing. The minor rivalry between them continues into ''[[Harry Potter (Franchise)/Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows|Harry Potter]]'' until Voldemort {{spoiler|kills Snape to get the power of the Elder Wand}}. Given that {{spoiler|Snape was a [[Reverse Mole]] but was not the current owner of the wand}}, Voldemort kept the right Dragon, but for the wrong reason.

** From Book 4 until Moridin and Shadar Haran appear, the Forsaken themselves are [[Co Dragons]].

* R.A. Salvatore's ''Hunter's Blade'' trilogy, Gerti Orelsdottr and Obould Many-Arrows are technically Co Dragons working for a group drow out to cause chaos in the area for the fun of it. They're both [[Dragon With an Agenda|dragons with an agenda]], to the point where Obould becomes a [[Dragon in Chief]], and eventually [[The Starscream|decides to get rid of the drow all together.]]

* [[David Eddings]] loves this trope. In ''[[The Belgariad]]'', [[Big Bad|Torak]] has Ctuchik and Zedar as his chief disciples. In ''[[The Malloreon]]'', [[Big Bad|Zandramas]] has [[Number Two|Naradas]] and [[Demon Lords and Archdevils|Demon Lord]] [[Dragon With an Agenda|Mordja]] as her second-in-command and primary defence respectively; her rival, [[A God Am I|Urvon]] has both [[Dark Messiah|Mengha]]/[[Bastard Understudy|Harakan]] as his First Disciple and representative, and [[Demon Lords and Archdevils|Demon Lord]] [[Dragon in Chief|Nahaz]] who protects him physically, leads the army, and is more or less in charge. One could argue that Nahaz and Mordja are also [[Co Dragons]] to their real master, [[Satan|The King of Hell]], acting as his agents in the real world and [[Eviler Than Thou|competing]] [[Arch Enemy|viciously]] for his favour. In ''[[The Elenium]]'', [[God of Evil|Azash]] has [[Evil Sorceror|Otha]], and [[Badass|Martel]]; Otha rules his empire for him, while Martel serves as his main agent in the West, and has shades of [[Dragon in Chief]].

** ''Space'': Ecliptor and Darkonda, although their boss was technically the [[Dragon in Chief]] for [[Bigger Bad|Dark Spectre]]. Ecliptor was the [[Noble Demon]] type who mentored Astronema, while Darkonda was the scheming backstabber who {{spoiler|stole her from her family in the first place}}. They couldn't stand each other.

* Season 3 of ''[[Degrassi the Next Generation]]'' gave us this with the [[Fan Nickname|Candy Bandits]]. The [[Big Bad]] is Jay, and with Sean's [[Face Heel Turn]], he and Alex become [[Co Dragons]].

* On ''[[Dark Oracle]]'', [[Creepy Twins]] Blaze & Violet were the primary antagonists for most of Season 2, and appeared to be a [[Big Bad Duumvirate]]. In reality they were [[Co Dragons]] to {{spoiler|[[The Mentor|Doyle]]'s [[Evil Counterpart]]}} the Puppet-Master, who was the one really giving the orders.

** The show starts off with Nucky as the [[Big Bad]] while his younger brother Eli is [[Dirty Cop|the crooked sheriff]] that carries out his edicts. Nucky's other Dragon is his protege [[Shell Shocked Veteran|Jimmy Darmody]], who is a former soldier turned enforcer. Eli and Jimmy seem to be this, with Eli being the official muscle for Nucky while Jimmy takes care of things as a hitman/enforcer who works outside the law and can get dirty. Too bad the first season closes with ''both'' of them being approached by [[The Man Behind the Man|The Commodore]] to become part of a conspiracy to take Nucky down.

** In season two, Jimmy and Eli become [[Co Dragons]] to the Commodore - Eli as his pawn in the sheriff's department, and Jimmy as his protege. When {{spoiler|the Commodore [[Anticlimax Boss|is paralyzed by a stroke]]}}, Jimmy steps up as a [[Dragon Ascendant]], with his own Dragon in [[Cold Sniper|Richard Harrow]].

** Finally, [[Hot Blooded|Lucky]] [[The Brute|Luciano]] and [[Evil Genius|Meyer]] [[Pragmatic Villainy|Lansky]] are [[Co Dragons]] to [[The Gambler|Arnold]] [[Magnificent Bastard|Rothstein]]. Lansky is the more rational, businesslike Dragon, while Luciano is hot-tempered and violent. In season two, they both become [[The Starscream]] and plot to overthrow Rothstein, though [[Foregone Conclusion|it'll take them a few years until his death and their rise to power]].

* ''[[Blaz Blue]]'' has {{spoiler|Hazama/Terumi Yuuki and Relius Clover}} appear this way at first. Bonus points for the [[Red Oni Blue Oni|Red Oni, Blue Oni]] thing they have going on. {{spoiler|Then it turns out [[Dragon in Chief|they're the ones behind everything, and their boss is a puppet]].}}

* Though only revealed at the conclusion of a linked game, [[The Legend of Zelda Oracle Games]] feature Veran and Onox as [[Co Dragons]] for Twinrova.

** ... who are themselves [[Co Dragons]] for [[Hijacked By Ganon|Ganon]].

* In ''[[Fire Emblem Tellius (Video Game)|Fire Emblem Tellius]]'' this trope is subverted, and then played straight. Initially, the Four Riders of Daien are held up as [[Co Dragons]] to the King of Daien, being the nation's four top generals and warriors. It quickly becomes apparent, however, that [[Lady of War|Petrine]] and [[Axe Crazy|Bertram]] are both taking orders from The [[Black Knight]], and that only the latter has [[Big Bad|Mad King Ashnard]]'s ear. As the last few chapters approach, however, we are introduced to [[Badass|Bryce]], the last surviving member of the original Riders, who serves as Ashnard's bodyguard, believes [[My Country Right or Wrong]], and takes no crap from anyone, including the Black Knight. In the second game, the [[Bigger Bad|Goddess Ashera]] has [[Woobie Destroyer of Worlds|Sephiran]] and [[Our Dragons Are Different|Dhenginsea]] as her Dragons.

** [[Enfante Terrible|Sophia]] [[Daddys Little Villain|Moriatos]], head of magicial soldier training.

** And Azula has something of [[Co Dragons]] in Mai and Ty Lee. {{spoiler|Their [[Heel Face Turn]] and the realization that fear does not guarantee loyalty leads to Azula's [[Villainous Breakdown]]}}.

* On ''[[Gargoyles (Animation)|Gargoyles]],'' [[The Fair Folk|the Weird Sisters]] could be considered this for both [[Evil Sorcerer|the Archmage]] and [[Physical God|Oberon]], though unlike in most of these examples, they usually act like [[Single Minded Twins|Single Minded Triplets]].

* In ''[[Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes (Animation)|Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes]]'', The Leader has Abomination and Abosorbing Man as his Dragons.
