Combat by Champion/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: Duels Decide Everything - even wars.

  • Straight: A war is decided by a duel between two great warriors.
  • Exaggerated: A war between two galactic empires is decided by a duel.
  • Downplayed: Boys from two street gangs have a two man rumble over a turf dispute.
  • Justified: The issue is too obscure to fight a whole war about.
    • The war is between two tribes so small that they don't have more then one or two warriors each that are capable of entering such a contest. The loss of just one of the combatants would militarily cripple his tribe and hence make it impossible for them to go back on their word. This makes it practical to have a Combat by Champion as it not only saves lives but is self-enforcing.
  • Inverted: Two nations go to war because of a personal dispute between their leaders.
  • Subverted: One of the champions gets sick at the last moment and the war goes on.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: ???
  • Enforced: Everyone else is Locked Out of the Fight.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: A king risks his whole kingdom on a duel. As a result his people are put in subjection to a genocidal tyrant without even fighting a war about it.
