Cut and Paste Suburb/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: All of the houses in a neighborhood are exactly identical.

  • Straight: All of the houses in Alice and Bob's neighborhood look exactly alike.
  • Exaggerated:
    • All of the houses in the world look exactly the same.
    • The interiors, as well as the residents' daily routines, are also identical.
  • Downplayed: Only a few houses look identical.
  • Justified:
    • Houses had to be built quickly due to population growth.
    • The homeowner's association is very strict and forbids any remodeling that affects the exterior.
  • Inverted: All of the people look identical, but their houses all look different.
  • Subverted: The houses all look identical, except for one at the end of the street.
  • Double Subverted: That house looked different because there were eggs on it and/or bird droppings on the roof.
  • Parodied: The neighborhood is called "Cut-and Paste Street".
  • Zig Zagged: The houses look identical, with some exceptions throughout. But these had been egged, and they look the same when cleaned. But then someone else has their house painted differently because they got permission from the homeowner's association.
  • Averted: All houses in the neighborhood look different.
  • Enforced: The show is a cartoon, and the producers were short on time and needed to reuse the same drawings of a house.
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, everything here looks... the same!"
  • Invoked: A construction company decides to build a new neighborhood and reuses the same blueprints.
  • Exploited: Bob hides something he wants kept secret in the "grey house", but only he knows which one.
  • Defied: Alice and Bob paint their house or move to a different neighborhood.
  • Discussed: "This neighborhood needs some more variety!"
  • Conversed: "Why do these shows tend to have identical houses in the neighborhoods? Are the producers too lazy to make different ones?"
  • Deconstructed: The monotony of the neighborhood dampens Alice and Bob's mood.
  • Reconstructed: Alice and Bob get permission to remodel/repaint their house, and they feel happier.
  • Played For Laughs:
    • The houses all have the same silly-looking decorations on them.
    • The houses all look like funhouses that can be seen at a carnival/amusement park.
  • Played For Drama: Lots of people decide to move out and new people do not want to move in due to how the houses look, causing a loss of profits when it comes to real estate.
