Darkest Dungeon/Memes
- Several of the Ancestor's lines are memetic:
- "Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer."
- Explanation: The universal response to a player's luck suddenly taking a turn for the worse. (See also, "How quickly the tide turns!")
- "Begone, THOT!"
- Explanation: The original line is "Begone, fiend!" but some meme videos edit in the word "thought" from another line. ("THOT" is slang for "that ho over there".)
- "Soothed... Sedated..."
- Explanation: One of the lines that the Ancestor will use when the player used a healing skill. Players generally don't find it very soothing or sedating.
- "The poor Miller, thrice a victim..."
- Explanation: The Miller is one of The Woobies whose backstory shows a more abusive side of the Ancestor. Players are likely to bemoan his misfortune whenever he's mentioned.
- "The buffoon is flummoxed!"
- Explanation: A possible line heard during The Butcher's Circus PVP side mode, when either player is taking their time with their decision. Since needing to think through your moves is very important, this will be heard a lot.
- "Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer."
- "<whistles>"
- Explanation: Reynauld, the starting Crusader, always comes with the "Kleptomania" trait, which means he has a chance to steal an item of loot before the player can put it in their inventory. There are several things he can say when this trait activates, but "<whistles>" is by far the most "popular" with players. His kleptomania has been exaggerated such that he is prone to stealing anything, not just dungeon loot.
- "It says you're a heretic!"
- Explanation: The Crusader's Zealous Accusation skill depicts him holding a scripture at the enemy's face, which somehow deals damage to them. Some fanart takes it in a badass or really silly way.
- Quad Leper
- Explanation: Joke squad setups are no stranger to the fanbase, but the Quad Leper (where the rear two Lepers are incapable of fighting the enemy) is most often quoted.
- CRIT! Heal 0 Bleed
- Explanation: The Occultist's "Wyrd Reconstruction" skill has a chance to heal zero hit points, and also has a chance to inflict bleed on the recipient of the heal. After a they gain a couple of levels, most heroes have enough bleed resist where it's not a big deal, but of course the "heal zero bleed" always seems to happen at the worst possible moment...
- Fuck Wilbur
- Explanation: Wilbur is the spotter for the Swine Prince, marking your heroes for the big man to strike. He's very fast but all his actions inflict Scratch Damage (though they can also stun). That said, due to the heavy hitting from the Swine Prince, it's very possible for Wilbur's squealing to inflict a Deathblow ― and the game even gives you an achievement for losing a hero this way! To top it all off, there even is a subreddit devoted to Wilbur hate, aptly titled r/fuckwilbur.
- Are those... eyes?!
- Explanation: The game's overall aesthetic uses Hidden Eyes on every character, so any fanart or mods that break this aesthetic are jokingly met with confusion or disgust.
