He found an M-80 explosive at his grandmother's house, took it to his room to examine it, and began to repeatedly light and extinguish the fuse. During one of these cycles the fuse would not go out, so he jammed the red cardboard tube between his thighs and covered it with his hand to muffle the explosion. This plan was less successful than he had hoped.
Muffled Explosion, an actual bonafide Darwin Award

This is what happens when Too Dumb to Live is painfully true. It only really counts in examples from Real Life, but there's no rules against mentioning/joking about them in Fiction. It appeals pretty strongly to a few parts of human character: A, we like reminders that there are dumber people than us out there, B, stupid people are funny, and C, it's just so damn funny to watch a wallbanger end in a rightfully earned catastrophe.

This trope doesn't really need examples, since they're all either already documented elsewhere or would better be documented as Too Dumb to Live, depending on whether it's fact or fiction.
