This [[Children's Literature]] series (28 books in all) was written in the 1800’s by one known as Martha Finley. They were supposed to not only entertain kids, but instill in them a desire to be more Christlike.Because they were written so long ago, sexism (and racism) runs rampant, and parent/child relationships are portrayed in a way that is almost horrifying.
However, this book is fairly popular amoung Christians, and a new series has been released, in which the racism and some of the parental abuse has been toned down.
