Some may have once been married, but they are now divorced. It might be mentioned that the hard hours their profession demands cuts out the chance for the standard nuclear family, or they may simply be Married to the Job. Usefully, especially in sitcoms, any attractive guy/girl they meet and try to hit on will also be single, unless them being taken is relevant to the plot. |
