Foundation/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for here.

The Foundation series started over fifty years ago and while it's not popular in the Internet communities, there have been many published literary fanfics, continuations of the series by other authors who were disheartened by Asimov's passing without having completed the series and thus sought to complete it themselves or fill in some holes. These are recommendations made by Tropers for these published "fanfics" and actual fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic, published or no, of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Foundation's Fear by Gregory Benford

  • Recommended by Dookie 2
  • Pairings: It's the canon pairing of Hari Seldon and Dors Venabili, who are (mostly) Happily Married.
  • Synopsis: It takes place within the scope of Forward the Foundation. The story's mostly about Hari Seldon's informal advisory to Emperor Cleon I while he was considering appointing him as First Minister in the power vacuum created by Demerzel's resignation, proposing quite a few controversial motions. The Psychohistory project is in full swing but is threatened by another scientific advancement—simulacra are created with the uploaded intelligences of ancient heroes, namely Voltaire and Joan of Arc. A debate ensues over the ethical issues of simulacra and Seldon, Amaryl, and Dors are drawn in.
  • Comments: It breaks with a lot of the canonical Foundation material, so if you liked Asimov's development and lack of aliens, then this would not be fun to read. If you're like me and desperate for anything Foundation-y, go ahead.
