Fuddy Meers
Fuddy Meers is a 1999 play written by David Lindsay-Abaire chronicling a very special day of an amnesiac named Claire Fiffle who forgets the events of a day when she goes to sleep and wakes up on the next. This particular day, she wakes up being taken away by a man in a ski mask who brings her to her mother's house. From there, secrets are revealed in an over-the-top farce.
Tropes used in Fuddy Meers include:
- Bittersweet Ending: Claire remembers all that happened before her condition until she falls asleep in the car at the very end.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: The condition that Claire has, wiping her memory clean every day. Interestingly enough, she can recall distant memories easily with a little help.
- Never Mess with Granny: For a stroke victim who's well into her sixties, Gertie can hold her own pretty well. She fights off two escaped convicts with ease, and even manages to non-fatally stab one of them. She also has what may be the foulest mouth of any of the characters, but her aphasia manages to censor out any actual swear words.
