Labyrinths of Echo:

The core Labyrinths of Echo series consists of eight volumes, each containing two to seven novellas, set in chronological order:

Side stories:

  • Nests of the Chimerae (1997, largely rewritten in 1999). Max is summoned into another world, stripped of his powers, has wild adventures, and returns to back to Echo to discover that mere seconds passed since he left. It is believed to occur somewhere during the penultimate chapter of Labyrinth.
  • My Ragnarök (1998). Takes place in our world, where Max is tasked with completing as many eschatological prophecies as possible. Generally assumed to be taking place during the last chapter of Labyrinth of Mönin.

  1. ↑ The English title is the literal translation of the Russian title Чуб Земли, but the pun on the Russian "пуп земли", which means "omphalos", i.e. center / most important place of the world, is lost
  2. ↑ Among Russian nursery rhymes, there is an endless one which goes: "Еду дальше, вижу мост, на мосту ворона сохнет. Взял ворону я за хвост, положил её под мост - пусть она помокнет. Еду дальше, вижу мост, под мостом ворона мокнет. Взял ворону я за хвост, положил её на мост - пусть она подсохнет." This rhyme mentions a crow being put endlessly on a bridge to dry or under a bridge to soak. The book deals with the founder of the aptly named Order of the Water Crow.
