At first, the story seems like a remake of Aramaki's earlier work ''[[Megazone 23]]'' - a top-secret [[Powered Armor\|battlesuit]] falls off a truck, and is found by a college student. But ''MADOX-01'' quickly [[Camp\|takes a turn to the absurd]]. The student doesn't care about the suit; he just [[I Just Want to Be Normal\|wants to be able to take the silly thing off]] and go on a date. The military man doesn't want the suit back; he wants to destroy it because [[Tanks for Nothing\|it made his tank company look bad during tests]]. And the person who developed the suit wants to keep it intact because she wants to keep her position in the military/industrial complex. While the story is silly, the action scenes are choreographed well and the characters are engaging and all-too-human.
